I suppose I could start taking some time to do tag games again
Thanks to @eccaiia for possibly being the one to get me back into this; my words are main, mad, many, and may
I'll pass it along to @dragonqueendeathrayfaeemily-crow, @sarandipitywrites, @mundanemoongirl, @charlesjosephwrites, and leave it open for anyone else! New words are dismay, distract, dispose, and distort!
Spoilers for Atomancers volume 1 below:
Main:
The doors of the restaurant were thrown open at that moment, and in popped two members of his crew; the petite main battery gunner Miri, and loader Takaro (who appeared almost comically taller than her).
Takaro began, “Captain, the–”
“Maio’, someone just…” Miri cut off.
“The…”
“Wait a minute, just… one at a time,” Maiolo interrupted.
“The Marines!” went both of them in unison, their voices like a chord.
“What about them?” he asked.
“They’re gonna send them to the base!” said Takaro, hastily.
Mad:
“The kid’s had his chance to call ‘em off,” went Maika, fixing his bayonet. “I bet his swords can’t reach me before I run him through.” With that, he broke into a mad charge, the long knife glinting as he sprinted forward….
…And ran into Ian, knocking him down. His helmet came loose from his head, revealing his short, dark golden hair. The bladepoint was bent and rolled when Maika picked it back up. Hastily, frantically, he tried stabbing again. Ian only reacted, again, as would someone who’d been punched. The third time, Ian grabbed the end of the rifle, took one of his swords, and sliced it in two on a foment of acid.
Many:
“What are they doing here?” asked Lia. “The base can’t support that many, right?”
“They only need enough piers for the damaged ships,” informed Lioko. “For the others? They’ll just park them in the harbor wherever.”
“Well…” said the first crewmate from earlier. “If the PFM isn’t already doing a revolution, they’re gonna want to real soon….”
May:
“Call it what you will, Admiral,” said the Governor. “You know, the people will still see you as an empire for it. –Rightfully so, if I may.”
“That might be, Governor.” She slowly glanced behind herself. “But then, they should be grateful we’re not the other empire.”
Unfortunately, the archive of posts in which I was mentioned stops at this post, so no masterpost :( but please feel free to tag me from this point on.
This one comes from @oh-no-another-idea, who tagged me all the way back in September of last year. I suppose it's better 191 days late than never. My words are: skirmish, stall, sliver, and shrug!
I'll pass this one on to @moonandris, @late-to-the-fandom, @stajorathefallen, @melpomene-grey, and leaving it open as always! Your words are Mild, Middling, Intense, and Extreme!
Spoilers for Atomancers volume 1 below:
Skirmish:
Lioko was sure he was a goner. It was over. After fifteen years of life, he’d turn out to be a casualty in a naval skirmish. What a way to die, all things considered. Maybe he’d even be in a history book, if the rebels ever won.
Stall:
That finally snapped Lioko to his senses. Even Lia was eager to get out of the way. No one messes around when a gunfight is coming on. The twins scrambled into a nearby empty horse-stall and hid prone behind the water trough.
Sliver:
And when they could see with full clarity, they were in the black of space. They turned around, and the world was there in full. The moons fast approached them to the right, appearing only as a sliver from their perspective.
Shrug:
“Take a bullet for you,” said Kalena, as they let go of each other’s hands.
“Huh?” went Maiolo, becoming a bit confused. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Kalena shrugged. “I thought since we both did that for each other, it’s how we could say goodbye.”
“A real... morbid way to say goodbye, yeah?”
She poked his eye patch. “You’re no fun.”
Obscure Reference no. 4: Avatar: The Last Airbender
In the first two seasons of ATLA, Zuko often disguises himself as a masked renegade and, through his covert exploits, becomes known as "The Blue Spirit".

I remembered my Tumblr password! Thanks to @oh-no-another-idea for the tag, and here's a tense moment before the final battle of Atomancers where experienced revolutionary Taino Ekaia lambasts Maiolo's opsec... (spoilers below, as this is nearing the end of the book)
I challenge you to name which two fictional characters most inspired Taino, by the way. Hint: They are both from pieces of media which released after 2010.
Gently passing this one on to @sarandipitywrites, @kaylinalexanderbooks, @charlesjosephwrites, @melpomene-grey, and leaving it open!
Thank you @melpomene-grey for tagging me with this one!
For those who are unaware, the goal of this one is to find lines which correspond with each of a set of vague descriptions.
Four lines from Atomancers:
A line about desire:
“I hope so, yeah,” [Maiolo] said [to Kalena], and decided that it was now or never. “–Before we go, though… can I kiss you?”
An angry line
The whispers became loud and disgruntled. One even shouted from the balcony, “You’ll doom us all!”, and another, “This thing [Hydrogen] is a threat to our freedom!”
A line about nature
“There’s a secret I didn’t tell you about the Pinepalm Grove,” Kalena explained. “Yeah, it’s a sacred site to native Molauan culture– and for that alone, it’s gotta be protected– but it’s also a closed food forest that we can pick from for our, uhh– permanent residents here. That makes it twice as important. We lose half the grove, we lose half our autonomy.”
A line that uses the senses
Sandrine had seen battle at sea before. Her heart had raced, the smell of salt and gunpowder assaulting her senses, the overpowering booms of naval artillery fire rattling her bones from every which way… but she’d never literally stared down the barrel of a gun.
Gently passing this one along to @oh-no-another-idea, @charlesjosephwrites, @moonandris, and leaving it open! Your prompts are A line about hope, A sorrowful line, A line about technology, and A line with some action!
