Ended up ordering this from Amazon... Looks like it's going to be a while before I have the actual CD because it's been pushed back (I'm guessing because WoM is a tiny label and aren't exactly too punctual with releases, let alone getting them to large retailers). Anyway, thanks to autorip I got to download it on the 4th (which is the official release date) and I've been listening to it since then...
Understandably there's a pretty prominent Estradasphere vibe running through the whole thing. It's totally instrumental and the sax and trumpet are rather prominent throughout. The compositions are often very Estradasphere-esque (particularly the melodies) and it definitely has that distinctive sound on it when it comes to production, too - the album does sound a lot like other albums Schimmel has been involved with, which is far from a bad thing. Ultimately it ends up sounding something like a mix between Estradasphere, Orange Tulip Conspiracy and Secret Chiefs 3 (particularly Xaphan, which has a very distinctive sound of its own), though there are certainly moments when it deviates from these touchstones. There's a bit of a spy movie soundtrack feel to it at times, too.
Overall, it's a grand album, and I'm guessing a lot of people aren't going to hear it, but I recommend it. I'm still not convinced on the band name or artwork, but hey, it's the music that matters!
