Dovah Study Log Vol 2 "Atronach Hot Springs"
I descended from the Throat of the World and gathered my supplies in Ivarstead before seeking Shearpoint. Later that night, I set out following the nearby river to the North. I am still quite unfamiliar with this land, and its varied terrains perplex me to an indescribable degree. As I traveled alongside the scenic riverbed, the tranquil and green Tundra gave way to a brown expanse, dotted with pools of steaming water. I had entered the province of Eastmarch.
The steam smelled heavily of minerals, Sulfur I think. Upon closer inspection, the pools of water appear to be large craters, the origins of which are unbeknownst to me, although the high content of sulfuric materials suggests a volcanic origin. Little grows here, the sulfur pools have seen to that, the flora of the area is severely handicapped, and limited to a few species. It was frequent for me to find small, vein-like plants clutching to rocks nearby the pools, Creep Clusters. I’m quite fond of Creep Clusters, to be honest. There’s something about these plants that allows them deep reserves of Magicka, which, when turned into a potion, makes a potent way to Restore Magicka.
My travels soon brought me to an interesting find. Hidden away among the pools was a small outcropping of stones, all pointed skyward. The center stone was obviously man-made, the intricately carved patterns and iron bindings being a dead giveaway. I believe this is a Standing Stone; one of thirteen magical stones dotted around Skyrim. This particular stone was adorned with the constellation of the Atronach. A powerful sign who grants those born under it with increased Magickal resistance.
I think I will rest here for the night. I feel safe by this stone. The Atronach sign has brought back old memories… I must recollect my thoughts before I set out again.
