Need me an AU for ATS where Darla didn't die for every reason.

Think about it. They could have achieved the same desperate sacrifice by just preforming an emergency C-section on Darla. But given that she's a vampire and they're on the run, they still find themselves in that alley way to do it. Plenty of characters in this series pay for survival with pain.

Darla lives, and it turns out her connection to Conner does not turn off once he's no longer inside of her body. They still share a soul and that little boy means more to her than anything or anyone else ever has or could. Angel may be a helicopter Dad but Darla is Mama Bear.

So when everything with Wes and Holtz and all that goes down, she finds herself beside Angel, fighting tooth and nail to get her baby back. When Holtz jumps into Q'artoth, she jumps right in with him.

Cue the insanity that is Darla and Holtz having to work together to survive an unlivable dimension together while raising a child. It never made sense to me that Holtz, a regular ass middle aged human, was able to not only survive the worst hell dimension there is but also raise a child there. But with Darla there too? Thats a whole master vampire, and one with a baby to protect too. They make a deal, Darla keeps them safe and brings back any kills that might be eatable for Holtz, Holtz lets Darla feed from him. Given all of their history that would be such a delicate, painful balance that would break at the slightest strain. It would be painfully thrilling to watch.

Then the addition of Darla could have given Connor more of a morally grey stance that would have reflected his nature as a being born if two vampires. He's human-ish. He stands in the middle of so many different worlds. Having both Holtz and Darla's ideals around as he grew up in a *demon dimension* would have made for such an interesting complexity. It would have made his struggles with morality going forward make a lot more sense as well.

Also I want to see them returning to Earth and when Connor is overwhelmed by this new place, the first place he goes for comfort is Darla. He knows without a doubt that his mother could and would kill anything actually dangerous that came near him. I want to see Darla's habits reflected in him. The way she talks, certain mannerisms, little things that most people wouldn't notice (Angel notices immediately). If they weren't gonna give is Cangel, I would much rather have watched Connor, Angel and Darla try to be this odd little family together. Darla is by then the adjusted to how sharing a soul with Connor makes her feel, how attuned it makes her with him. She's at the median point between souled vampire introspective self loathing, and un-souled vampire viciousness so shes *trying* but she can still be so cutting sometimes but Angel kind of needs the reality check? Connor is kinda feral but also kind of curious about his Dad (between what Holtz told him about him and what Darla told him hes got some idea but no idea how to feel about him). And Angel is having the *weirdest* out of body experience about the whole thing but is infinitely grateful to be allowed a second chance. Its not perfect, thankfully, but its good.

Ideally for this AU the Jasmine thing has nothing to do with Cordi and Connor (because not just no but FUCK no). Instead Jasmine and Connor are twins. Connor got taken by Holtz and Darla, while Jasmine was raised by Angel. She's still exactly what she was in canon, she just grew rapidly from an infant. She was raised with the morals that Angel and co are trying to abide by and once she was big enough to, she used her power to try to bring those ideals to everyone else through her love. She's as hypnotic as she was in canon, with the difference being that Angel, Darla, and Connor are immune. She's more of a "The path to hell is paved with good intentions" than the cannon Jasmine. She gets farther too because Angel can't bear the idea of killing her, nor will Darla abide it. Connor is the one to do it, (later they learn hes the only one who physically could have) as he was in canon.

I just think it would have been much better to keep her around.
