hello bb! i wanted to chime in and ask very kindly if you'd be down for another alpha!atsumu scenario. i sadly am a big sucker for jealousy and marking. so i was thinking of a scenario where volleyball obsessed atsumu denies his attraction until someone else tries to court her. yeah, i just really have a thing for stupid alphas... in hopes this isnt too dumb thank you!<3
You didn’t specify the s/o so i chose an Omega! Also, no nsfw this time. I also attempted a gender neutral reader, but still an Omega.
The argument inside the gym seemed to be a normal occurrence, the obvious shouting belonging to the infamous twin duo. Nobody really paid much attention to it, deciding to focus on their phones or friends. Normally, there would be people scattered about and peeping in to see the show, but this is the fifth argument this week. It wasn’t really worth it.
“Shut up, ‘Samu! I do not like them!” Atsumu shouted. The sound echoes, bouncing in around ceiling as it settles. Osamu just sighs, shaking his head.
“You are so dumb, y’know? Always ogling them. You’re smitten, ‘Tsumu,”
“Am not!” He once more, defends himself. Osamu sighs, knowing giving baseless claims will get him nowhere.
“They asked for help and you offered before I could answer. Then you sit in class, staring at them as if they’re gonna disappear if ya stop. Plus, your scent always changes when you’re near them. Why don’t’cha ask ‘em out?”
Atsumu sighs, running his hand through his hair. Turning from Osamu, he gives his answer. “Because I need to focus on volleyball. It’s important for my future so courting is gonna have to wait. I’m not sayin’ I like ‘em! Just tellin’ ya, I’m busy,”
“And when someone decides they’re cute and up for grabs? Maybe I should—” Osamu’s sentence is stopped before he can finish, a volleyball bouncing from his head into the floor. His growl is the only warning Atsumu gets before his brother pounces on him. The fight brings in onlookers, Suna already recording the fight as it starts.
The fight itself is never quite resolved, Kita stopping the both of them and having them apologize to each other. Of course, Kita also points out Atsumu’s obvious attraction to the Omega. Atsumu sighs at the memory, shuffling his feet to finish cleaning up the gym. Osamu left earlier, promising to buy Suna some snacks for a movie night they had, so Atsumu was cleaning alone. As he left the gym, locking the doors, he heard a familiar voice.
Yours.
“Why’d you want to meet me so late, Koichi-kun?” your voice was angelic to his ears, unconsciously moving closer to the sound. When he looks past the corner, he sees you and another classmate talking. You’re close together, too, making Atsumu narrow his eyes.
“Well, I, um,” he fumbles over his words, hand rubbing the back of his head. “I wanted to know.. did you wanna, like, go on a date with me tomorrow? I’ve been, um, interested in courting you for some time,”
A small gasp comes from you, obviously shocked by the confession. Atsumu would normally roll his eyes because it’s obvious that is what was going to happen, but he doesn’t. Instead, he reaches into his bag and, without thinking, serves the ball into the back of the guy’s head. The grunt of pain from him and your short scream has Atsumu running towards the two of you.
“Shit, I’m sorry! Wasn’t lookin’ where I was goin’,” Atsumu apologizes, but he knows he’s not sorry. He may not have thought his plan through, but damn does he not regret it. “Hey, hello?”
“I think you knocked him out, Miya-san,” your voice comes from above him. When he looks up, he finds himself in the same state of shock as he was when Koichi confessed to you. Wide eyes with no ulterior motives, you look at him as if waiting for a response.
“Oh, um, yeah, I..” He clears his throat. “I do have a pretty hard hit. Um, do you think the nurse is still here?”
“No, they’re gone. Could you carry him? I know where he lives,”
“Oh, for sure, yeah. I can do that,”
The walk to drop off Koichi is silent, but Atsumu finds himself berating himself for fumbling over his own words. He’s not some smitten, lovestruck Alpha! He’s better than that. When you stop, so does he.
“I’ll let his parents know he fell and hit his head, but he seems fine,” you say, ringing the doorbell. Koichi’s parents seem grateful to the both of you, sending you both on your way after thanks and giving you two candy.
“Oh, sorry about that trouble. It was probably something serious, huh?” Atsumu broke the silence, aimlessly walking beside you.
“Oh, not much. Koichi wanted to court me, but I’m in love with another Alpha. I hope he’ll ask to court me,” your words have Atsumu’s scent overwhelming you and him, excitement evident.
He tries to play it cool, though. “O-Oh? Lucky guy, you’re a pretty Omega. Or, you know, pretty cool for an Omega, I guess,”
“I’m glad we got to talk, Miya-san. This is my house,” you bow in front of him. Before you leave, you grant him a parting gift with a kiss on the cheek. “I hope you’ll ask me to court you, soon,”
Warnings: Valentine’s day, red strings AU [you can only see your own string], MSBY!Atsumu, BokuAka
Fans are the highlight of Atsumu’s life. The fans that cheer him on when he makes a winning shot or when he does a service ace— they are the only ones he needs. The red string attached to his pinky finger is useless. A soulmate doesn’t matter to him when he rides to high of winning a match.
That’s what he tells himself, but he knows he’s lying. The way Akaashi goes and hugs Bokuto after the game proves it. He wishes he had a soulmate to rush into his arms. Even watching Hinata and Meian with their own soulmates.. it makes him feel so lonely. His red string is always loose, his soulmate always far away. It’s supposed to tighten when they’re close, but they’re always far away. Even after he says hi to his fans, it stays loose. No lucky fan today, he supposes.
Sakusa doesn’t have a string at all, he says, so Atsumu feels less lonely, but not enough. Even Barnes has his soulmate, making Atsumu feel worthless and alone.
That’s going to change.
He doesn’t notice the tightening as he walks to the locker room. He doesn’t notice the string digging into the skin until he’s pushing open the door to the locker room, the string taut as he pushes. When he opens the door, he doesn’t expect you to be in the room. He doesn’t expect a single person in the locker room, yet there you stand, rubbing your pinky where his string ends.
“I’m sorry. I’m new here. I’m lost.” You say, twiddling your fingers. “I didn’t mean to break into your locker room, I thought maybe this was the bathrooms! I was about to leave!” He doesn’t deny your claims, noticing as you look to be in a hurry. “I’ll-!”
“Nice to meet you, soulmate,” he smiles, walking to hug you. You’re hesitant in hugging him back, but when your arms wind around his torso, he doesn’t feel so alone anymore. This time, his Valentine’s Day won’t be so lonely.
