TaniAtsu/AtsuZaki do casual intimacy and have unresolved romantic tension, but Tanizaki is too nervous about defining their relationship, and Atsushi convinced himself they’re “just friends”, up until the end of Guild arc, where they get into their first fight as a not-couple due to Tanizaki finding out about the Q thing with Naomi.

Tanizaki, being the type who’s more emotional than rational, is inconsolably enraged for all of 24 hours, in which Atsushi is devastated thinking their relationship is done for, and that he’s lost his first friend (that’s the same age as him). As a result, Atsushi faces the facts and realizes that he’s in love, and decides that at the very least he wants to tell Tanizaki how he feels (with a bit of a pep talk from Kyouka probably)

Meanwhile, Tanizaki, who is the type who’s anger burns bright and fast, wakes up going “oh god I have no idea what came over me” and rushes to apologize to Atsushi. He shows up at Atsushi’s dorm room. In true shoujo cliche style, just as he’s about to knock, Atsushi swings the door open, and then they’re gaping at each other like goldfish and stumbling over what they wanted to say to each other.

After some mutual awkwardness, they agree to be boyfriends. And that’s the story of TaniAtsu get together.
