My tendency to take a break from one project by working on another project continues. I decided to take a crack at the "hero shooter" ttrpg idea I had and its going well so far. The core concept is that you have a "class" you choose and play as which has a handful of abilities. Some of those abilities have a specified cooldown. For example, if an ability states "Cooldown: 3", after you use that ability you take a d6 and place it 3 side up. Then you tick that d6 down by 1 at the start of each of your turns, removing the d6 at 0 and are able to use that ability again. I've also decided to revisit my old Star Wilds setting with this system by using it as the world the character archetypes exist in, fleshing it out more as I go.
So I was thinking of buying a little nest for the birds!
“That is true, brother,” the captain replied, “but I have one more question for the outlander. Kyle Tarbot of Georgia, do you hold with the truth of the Eglwys?”
“I don’t know what that means, man.”
“What faith and creed do you follow?”
“Uh . . . Agnostic, I guess. I grew up Baptist, but that never really felt right, and I was like a witch or something for a few years in college, but . . . Shit. That was the wrong answer, wasn’t it?”
“Indeed it was, outlander.”
Without warning, the captain struck out with his arming sword, aiming a jab at Kyle’s neck.
