ok so i watched the new solarballs during the premiere and i certainly have some comments to make (spoilers below)
1. EARTH WAS SPITTING FACTS.
someone had to tell sol to his face eventually and i'm so glad it actually happened lmao.
"I sometimes wonder how my Earthlings feel about me. If I am being responsible with their needs. You know when I know i'm doing a good job? When they don't even think about it. When they live their lives completely unaware of how delicate the balance of the universe is. That's when I know i'm up to the task; when they don't even thank me."
"You lost yourself in your power, Sun. We may not be a literal family, but you're the closest thing we have to a father. I know you were trying to do a good job, but ignoring what we tell you, losing your patience, yelling, threatening us all for the sake of keeping us safe, it just made us fear you."
THIS. THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING TO HEAR FOR SO LONG. THANK YOU EARTH.
2. Astrodude isn't dead. yet
i knew he wasn't lmao. they're probably just gonna take him back to earth's orbit and TRY and revive the dude. poor guy
3. what do the rogues mean exactly when they say they "want the earth??"
they talk a lot about the idea of recruiting earth to the army but then they say it as if it's something malicious. what other intentions do they have with him other than seeing if OTS can host a planet with life (which the other planets already know about?) what motivations could make them talk about it in such a way? maybe i'm missing something, or i'm not and we'll find out next episode? the dwarfs (and proteus) seem to have figured it out, but we just don't know anything ourselves yet.
4. WTF ARE THEY GONNA DO TO THE DWARF PLANETS.
where did wise take them. what is going to happen. how are they gonna fix things. are they gonna locate the centauri system after being stranded in space? is that why they've been shown in the shadows of promotional art before?? i know they're going to play a prominent role in the future just based off speculation, but i feel that this arc just might be their moment
5. WDYM SEPARATE EVERYONE??? AND FIND A MILLION PLANETS EACH???
ok, so that's just overkill AND not smart considering some planets have severe memory issues and went INSANE from being alone for so long. yes this is about neptune. he's not even gonna have his damn MOONS this time he's just gonna be totally alone?
and they can only come back after [pt: after] they've recruited a million? how would that even work? you can't just bring that on them without allowing them to discuss it further.
"oh, yeah, so your goal is to recruit a million planets EACH. and you can only come back to us after you're done. don't worry about anything like getting lost and never finding your way back or any dangers like that. no big deal. oh also we aren't going to tell you why we need so many! goodbye." ITS SO STUPID DUDE
There's so many new mechanics, fun new characters, SUSELLE IS CANON, RALSEI AND KRIS HELD HANDS BRIEFLYKDKDKFKGKRKK
Dude I KNEW Asgore would be in this dark world... I did not expect to be seeing another human though. Flowery pisses me the FUCK off what the hell. Like, he's fun, he's got sick abilities, but also a jerk and I understand why Ralsei doesn't like him.
SPEAKING OF RALSEI, why is he so me this chapter. Plus, he actually got his own furniture and he's expressing his desires more and being more talkative and leading in some areas and I'M SO PROUD OF HIM 🥹 It's a shame he had to wear his hat for a while but it came off eventually which i'm happy about
I'm also so worried about Rudy what the hell. He fell down which is an obvious sign he's still not doing well despite his protests. I get he wants to be there for his daughter, but it's not fair that he feels he has to push himself so hard :( REST MY KING REST
Asgore lore goes crazy dude wtf. I can't help but wonder why Flowery is so adamant on him leaving everything behind? Why does he want him to stay in the dark world? Whatever it is, i'll find out once I get past SETH.
I hate this mfer's attacks. I cannot get past them. I had to pause their fight because the mechanics were complicated and I have yet to get used to them lmao, so that's where I left off. I'm sort of getting the hang of it, but I've got a long way to go ☹️
I love how they characterised the flowers too. Making one of them A FUCKING WOODY REFERENCE?? Genius.
That's about all I want to make BIG comments on for now. The Suselle ship has officially sailed and I CANNOT GET OVER IT THEH WERE SO CUTE DJKFKFF
Any further comments are on my profile. NO ONE SPOIL ANYTHING FOR ME PAST SETH'S FIGHT I HAVE YET TO SEE THAT
PS: The ferris wheel ride with Kris and Noelle wasn't even an option in the normal route... I dread what the weird route has to offer.
I have been waiting so long to talk about this episode with you all.
I must say, I am very satisfied. Although there were some aspects about it that I didn't expect, it was a heartwarming ending that sets up a lot of potential arcs in the future. For example: the return of the rogues, possibly meeting other stars, Sol and everyone's bonding era, etc!
People may interpret the planets leaving with Sunny as being "too quick to forgive," but it isn't really about forgiveness. The rogues isolated them, put them in danger, and actively seeked to take their friend as sort of a test subject. It would be way safer to head home with their star than to stay and succumb to eternal darkness.
Also...
THAS JUST. THAT JUST AN ANXIOUS DAD AND HIS SON WHOS BEEN MADE TO FACE ONE OF HIS WORST PHOBIAS AND NOW HES HOME AGAIN AND AUAUDHFJJF
I was quite surprised at how quickly the army retreated, but also not at the same time. Sunny is very powerful, so it's only natural they'd stand no chance 😭🙏 they're also sworn enemies with him now so augh
I have a lot more to say but I don't want to make this too long!!! I will say one more thing though: I screamed multiple times.
oops, it just occurred to me i forgot to post my review on this new solarballs episode 😭 i was so caught up talking about it on the discord i forgot i also post reviews here lmao
spoilers below!
I LOVE IT!
Sol bonding with his planets after all the drama, Earth being so happy to get his friends back, ALL OF IT WAS SO CUTE 🥹 Let's get into my very lengthy thoughts about this episode and my personal theories about a certain visitor we've discovered.
1. YES YES YEA YES YES YES Y
THEY ACTUALLY MADE THE PLANETS HAVE THEIR GRUDGES TOWARDS SOL NOT COMPLETELY FADE. THEY'RE SHOWING THEIR HESITANCY AROUND HIM. THEY'RE SHOWING SOL HAVING A HARD TIME CONTROLLING HIS COMPULSIVE THOUGHTS AND BEHAVIOUR. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED.
Many have been saying that the ending felt rushed, that the planets "forgave" Sol too quickly, but i've said before (probably on here too) it's not about forgiveness, rather it's about choosing what was safest for them at the time. This episode proved my point.
It's clear everyone still slightly resents Sunny for what he's done and they are intimidated by him and his capabilities, and so that's why at the start they assumed he'd just want them to get back to their orbits and obey him like usual. However, of course, as difficult as it is, Sol does not want to be feared or abandoned, so he proved himself once more. There is still a lot of adjusting and working to do, but overall, everyone is making incredible progress.
2. The Sun's struggle brings me much joy
I adore the little details they put into the Sun's behaviour: finding it hard to immediately allow everyone freedom, his eye twitching, accidentally letting his impulses take over before finding control of his emotions again, stuff like that. Before I saw this episode a couple weeks back, I was REALLY scared for how they'd handle him; would they immediately eliminate his flaws, or would they allow him additional development after his major arc had ended? I'm very glad they chose the latter as I would be very disappointed if his very obvious signs of mental instability that need additional attention/therapy just... disappeared without the right work done. As good of a job Luna, Earth and Astrodude did, they aren't professionals, just friends helping each other out. I'm excited to see how Sol develops from here on out.
3. Who might that be... 😼 (theorising section!)
I didn't know we'd be expecting a guest.
Now, last week, after I stopped screaming and hyperventilating (genuinely) about the glimpse of this star, I discussed with the patreons and we came to the logical conclusion this is very likely OUR GIRL PROXIMA CENTAURI 🫶
There have been a few differing theories which I personally disagree with, such as Nemesis, Arcturus, Betelgeuse, but none of them make as much sense as Proxima to me.
First off, Nemesis. For a bit of additional context as some may not be aware of this, Nemesis is a hypothetical companion star that was proposed to be orbiting around 1.5 light years away from the Sun back in the 1980s.
Nemesis is a mostly disproven theory. After looking into it, I found that there have been various attempts to locate this potential neighbour star spanning across multiple decades, but none have been successful. The possibility of a potential present or past companion star further out from the oort cloud still remains, but scientists have chosen to focus on other more plausible theories. Knowing researchers' overall viewpoint on Nemesis as a concept, it is unlikely SolarBalls would choose to cover it. It is a different situation to Planet 9/Planet X as it is still a hypothesis that is deemed an overall possibility, hence why they added our lovely X to the show. Therefore, it is most likely not Nemesis.
Next, Betelgeuse.
I really don't think I have to explain much about why I don't think this is Betelgeuse. The red supergiant who's likely about to go supernova suddenly appearing at the solar system's door and not doing anything? Considering what we've been told about older stars, their behaviour tends to be a lot more unstable - I seriously doubt Betelgeuse would appear so calm. Not to mention the size of this star, it's tiny! Way too small to be Betelgeuse! Although the colour is correct, everything else seems too off. Therefore, it is most likely not Betelgeuse.
Third, Arcturus.
My reasoning for Arcturus is partly the same as Betelgeuse: the star is simply too small. Arcturus is huge, obviously not as huge as Betelgeuse, but big enough to tell that isn't him. Plus, the colouring is off. Although there's been some asset changes, Arcturus was too much of an orangey red shade for it to be him. A member of the discord gave us this comparison photo:
As we can see, although the red is lighter than Proxima's initial shade, the red is also too red to match Arcturus' initial asset. Therefore, unless this colour change is to show his transition into being a red giant after these past 4.6 billion years or unless he has somehow shrunk, my conclusion is that it's likely not him either.
Also, I think the solar system would notice if a star as large as Arcturus or Betelgeuse were nearby.
After considering all that evidence, it is most likely Proxima. She's small (the star seems small) she's red (the star is red) and logically speaking, no one else really has a reason to be watching over the solar system. As for why she looks so much lighter than before, you really do need to compare the assets of the Sun before and now:
You can tell he is much more pastel looking than his previous bright yellow design. If that is the case for Sol, why shouldn't it be the case for the other stars? We have yet to see Rigil and Toliman again, they may very well have also undergone a shade change.
After playing around with the colours a bit, I found Proxima would look something like this if fully pictured. Left is the new shade, right is her original shade. Overall, it really isn't all that different.
If I am wrong about this you have every right to slaughter me once the truth is revealed.
Anyways, that's my thoughts!! I hope you enjoyed the episode just as I did, and prepare yourself for the Chrysalis arc coming very soon. 😋
Great to know they haven't forgotten about the guy!!! He wasn't there for very long but at least they know he's there now. Poor Ogle's shenanigans keep on going so wrong 😭
2. Ouuuugh this is gonna be painful.
Jupiter's moons could barely even see Saturn already and they haven't even been separated for that long 🥲. I'm really scared for what's gonna happen to the rest of the system like how are they even gonna be found ??? WHATS GONNA HAPPENIDJFJGJFJKSLDLLFLFLLD
3. There's still hope left 🥹
The dwarf planets seem to have the right idea about what's going on. They know that the Rogue Army isn't pure evil, just in the grey area, and that's a good mindset to have. It's clear they've been through a lot, and any intentions they have aren't all bad.
Quaoar also somehow knew that Sol had a change of heart. Good on you, man.
4. Oh I have been waiting SO LONG to talk about this
Sol 🥹🥹 euuughfhdh aauueeeeeeeuuuuu auuugh
The way he almost let his frustrations take over but then let Ogle go and acted GENTLE with him. SOL BEING GENTLE. HE LET HIM HAVE THE CHOICE TO LEAVE RATHER THAN FORCING HIM TO STAY. HE IS WILLING TO PROVE EVERYONE WRONG. HE'S WILLING TO LEAVE HIS ORBIT WHEN HE'S MADE HIMSELF STAY PUT ALL HIS LIFE. I AM SO PROUD OF HIM.
The way he looked to Earth for encouragement eeuuuuuuuuuueeueuue poor baby was so nervous and didn't want to seem mean or evil or anything 🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁 he wants to change so badly and he HAS and he's doing so welllllllllll eueuueeuueueueuueueueuuuuuuu 😖😖😖😖😖😢😢😢😢 AND THEN HE MADE A FRIENDDD AFTR SO LONGG I CANTTTTTTT (yes, I do think this is the unexpected friendship they were talking about) OGLE AND SUNNY FRIENDSHIP HELLOOOOO??? i want to hug him even though he is giant plasma sphere euuguuueueuufhfhuehsjdj HE DESERVES EVERYTHINGGGG IM. IM GONNAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUU im NOT OKAY GUYS I LOVE SOL SO MUCH HE IS EVERYRHING TO ME IM IM IM AAUUUEUURURUUUUEUEUEUUEUEUEUEUUEUEUE
So uhm. Yeah! Thats my review guys! I'm scared for the next episode.
SO! Solarballs is out. Little fun fact for you: my Patreon free trial ends TOMORROW so i've already seen the next episode! You should look forward to it, some development happens that I think you'll really want to see.
Well, that being said, now I can finally share my first impressions of the episode! Spoilers below 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
1. Poor Ogle man 💔
THE HELIX NEBULA. REALLY. Dude was going anywhere except the solar system lmao. At least he got there in the end. Maybe something will happen that we don't expect, because I doubt it would be that easy to just... get Earth and Luna to come with.
2. AWWW AWWW AWWW
THEM. JUST THEM. I could not get over their little smiles for the whole week and I STILL CANT. THEYRE SO CUTEEEE IVE BEEN WAITING FOR MOMENTS LIKE THIS FROM THESE GUYS FOR AGES 😭😭😭😭😭😭 when i tell you i was replaying that scene CONSTANTLY up until today i am not even exaggerating. that is exactly what ive been doing
but i don't ship them ew icky yuck ew i just love seeing a favourite duo/trio of mine get screentime
i wish luna was more involved in that little bit i might have just died in a good way
I'm so glad Luna and Earth are talking sense into Sol now. He's making so much progress and i'm so proud of him dude 🥲 accepting every criticism, learning from Earth, realisations from Luna, it's all working out okay! Obviously we can't really control if Sunny has any mood swings or intense episodes, but he can change his overall attitude towards everyone.
Now X's plan for Ogle needs to go well too.
(Also, it was very refreshing to see an educational sequence. Thanks, Earth.)
3. YESSSSSSS ASTRODUDE IS OKAYYYYY
YEYYSYSYSY I knew he wasn't going to die obviously since he's the main Earthling, but HES ALIVE AND HES GOOD AND ALSO FREAKED OUT BECAUSE I WOULD BE TOO IF THE ROBOTS I WAS MEANT TO BE ON BAD TERMS WITH DECIDED TO BE MY DOCTOR LIKE. And then Earth thinks he's EXCITED like no my dear planet he is NOT
4. WISE YOU ABSOLUTE LEGEND
Words can barely express how happy I am about that. He could've gone to Simp and told her, he could have gone against X, yet he didn't. I can tell he's gonna have a conflict about this in the future and I am SO hyped about it. I actually love him now lmao there goes my mixed feelings
Unfortunately now marks the moment I must end my Patreon free trial. That sucks. I'm gonna rewatch some of next week's episode beforehand just for the fun of it, so yeah that's my review on stuff that happened this episode 💕
GUESS WHO HAS SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT THE NEW EPISODEEEEEEEE
spoilers below! i'm not gonna say as much as i want to since im in the car right now so i want to focus on the road as much as possible ugh
1. WISE. PLEASE.
He has SOOOO MUCH POTENTIAL TO JOIN THE GOOD SIDE. He does not need to tell Simp what happened, he can side with X, he can do ANYTHING BUT TELL HER. It's all down to him at this point and i'm so scared 💔
I'm glad X stood up for himself and the other planets rather than giving up immediately. I love the guy to bits so seeing him be on the right side (and even kind of leading it) is really nice! It's also sweet to see him kind of become the other rocky planets' "Jupiter" and giving them advice on what to do 🥹
2. ASTRODUDE IS OKAY!!!
HELL YEAH! I really don't know who Earth and Luna recruited to help him out, but hey, that's pretty cool. Hope he wakes up soon.
3. Earth and Sun, it's about time 🥹
They're finally gonna have a conversation! A real one! I'M SO HAPPY
They both looked so happy about what's coming so i'm looking forward to seeing them talk next episode. I don't blame Earth for having his doubts about it, though - I would too. Sunny's face when he said he was sure about it was also so like. oddly heartwarming. He seems to have made up his mind about something so YAYYYYYYYYY
+ seeing Sol and Earth smile at each other (and in general) after so long was rather refreshing
4. Sedna is SO RIGHT
They will fall. They're guaranteed to.
What is it with this girlie and always saying everything right?? She's so full of good ideas and strategies it's so wonderful
gh sorry for the very small amount of comments lik i said i dont have a lot of time to say it
Soooo, Solarballs episode dropped and I WAS there for the premiere.
Again, I sure do have some thoughts!
Spoilers below 🤫
1. Oh stars.
So... our planets are absolutely fried and cooked. At least they actually bothered to discuss things this time rather than just immediately saying yes or no. I can tell that they're definitely growing suspicious about the army, ESPECIALLY Neptune. He literally says himself: "Also, just my opinion... it's SUPER sketchy that she wants us gone." THIS. LITERALLY THIS. FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS IT. I knew he'd have the right idea about this since the moment I watched them join like HELL YES GO NEPTUNE THANK YOU MY KING
And Venus as well??? He's asking all the right questions and making all the right assumptions. Plus him being sad about missing Astrodude made me so happy 🥲 YOU WILL SEE EACH OTHER AGAIN I PROMISEEE
I honestly feel so bad for Jupiter. He's so blinded by everything that's happened recently and by his own guilt that he barely hesitated to say yes to the mission despite the fact they'd be gone for almost 3000 years without seeing each other at all. Like... are you kidding? 1 MILLION planets each? He must be thinking about a lot right now.
Huge W to Uranus here by the way for looking out for Neptune and expressing his concerns with him being alone for so long. It's rare now that anyone says outright how worried they are about his mental state, so it's refreshing to see it actually happen.
Mercury as well omg. Mercury knows Sol better than any of the planets, it's only natural he'd know how he felt at that moment. If there is to be a future rebellion against the rogue planets, he would be one of the first to team up with the Sun again. I'm glad he's thinking of him.
2. Speaking of Sol...
So he is indeed hallucinating again.
He misses his babies so much ohhhh no. He will literally do ANYTHING to get them back at this point, even if it's as simple as a sorry and a conversation.
"You want me to say sorry, huh?! Will that make you all happy...?! Will that make you all come back?!"
"...Talk to me. Come on, you wanted to talk, right? You wanted to... communicate, and all that!"
It broke me seeing him cry, no joke. His flashback sequence and him realising just how bad and unapproachable and overbearing he's been? Dude, he literally looked scared of himself. [p.t: himself]
"Why aren't you back...? Why did you choose the darkness of space...? Please, someone, just... say something!" With tears in his eyes. He full on YEARNS for things to be back to normal and I just know he's on the verge of a full mental breakdown... that is if he hasn't reached his limit already.
In all honesty here, I would not be surprised if this implies at some point in the future he, Luna, and Earth will leave the solar system to find the others. Unless another star (or other stars plural) will be there in Sol's place to maintain the stability of the remaining orbiting objects whilst he's gone, I am not entirely sure how well that would go. I look forward to seeing what he decides to do.
3. HELL YES GOOD THINKING DWARF PLANETS
This is 100% the right move to make. Even with everything Sol has done, going back to him is worth it because he WILL cooperate. I'm just curious, though, how ARE they going to relocate the solar system? It makes me wonder: would they encounter any different ones along the way, like the Centauri system? If you couldn't tell I really want to see the Centauri system again like oh my goodness they have so much potential to be useful in this arc I WANT THEM TO APPEAR SO BAD UHHWHAHHAHSM
Sedna is an absolute girlboss btw. Her being the leader of the little dwarf planet army was the right move and I love her so much.
Thanks, Wise. You just gave them the opportunity of the century by banishing them lmao.
4. X YOU WONDERFUL MASTERMIND I KNEW YOU WERE ONE OF THE GOOD ONES
Look, we still don't know what exactly the rogues are planning with Earth or anyone else, but X sure does and we can only guess how bad it is.
They were NOT kidding when they said that what X did was brave. Who knows what the larger consequences of going against the rogue planets are, and since Wise knows that X sent Ogle away to the solar system, I am rather concerned for what's going to happen to him. Maybe he'll be banished? Taken into the empty void of space? Imprisoned, or even crushed? No matter what happens, he has a plan. We know how smart he is, therefore, I have reason to believe it will be successful, no matter how dangerous.
Well, that's my comments done with! I'm going to go watch the 30 second preview of the next episode.
