Letter

A letter was sent

to a friend far away

To mimic sitting down together in a bedroom of memories

Creating new memories

The letter, a physical legacy

Given away

To a friend across the way

With words etched on a page

Of how the day was,

What's new,

How are you?

Words lost to me. Or old, filed away.

But forever given to the other person

To cherish,

To hold,

To care for.

A letter I'll never see again.

But perhaps one day to be looked upon by you,

Calling forth memories

Of times long past

A whirlwind of nostalgia

To remember what legacy is

Words etched on a page

of connection

Do I want a lover or just

Touch?

Memories?

Do I want a lover or just

someone to show me

the deepest parts

of me

that I do not know about?

Do I want a lover

Or do I want someone to take the pictures

that I would want?

where I am unaware,

where I am totally Free,

And myself?

Do I want a lover

Or just a way to relate to others?

A conversation topic guaranteed?

A lover to fill in the empty space

When i speak to myself

A lover to tell me what I already

know about Myself

A lover as a function,

Not a concept

Or faraway emotion, quick to change

Lovers are commonplace, the norm.

Lovers are in movies, words, pictures, on and on

It is often the conflict, the resolution, the story.

But perhaps, love does not always require

a pair.

Perhaps, I am enough. Perhaps,

Perhaps my friends, my pets, my plants, my books,

My everything else

can be enough for now.

Like a disease spreading

mirrors hid the vital truth.

Like how a yawn prompts

another.

The smile forced in the mirror

Like a public mandate

Happiness made policy

Until we forget what real Smiles

look like,

Feel like,

Mean.
