Let’s have some Gorgoroth facts list
(because a lot of people are stupid and make assumptions rather than proper research)
10 Gorgoroth facts:
1. The founder of the band and the man behind most of the songwriting, including lyrics, is Infernus.
2. The band is named after the dead plateau of darkness in the land of Mordor from J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings.
3. To this day Gorgoroth has released 10 studio full-length albums.
4. The first vocalist for Gorgoroth was Hat (in norwegian “hate”), not Gaahl (as many like to believe that he was the only and main vocalist). Hat is featured on the 1st studio album Pentagram and the 2nd album Antichrist.
5. Gaahl has only joined Gorgoroth after Pest, in 1998 till 2007, and is only featured on 3 albums - Incipit Satan, Twilight of the Idols and Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam and the title track on the Destroyer... album.
6. Pest was the vocalist of the band for the longest amount of time (1995–1997, 2008–2012), did vocals on one song off of the Antichrist album (Possessed by Satan) and is featured on Under the Sign of Hell (as well as the rerelease from 2011), Destroyer or About How to Philosophize with the Hammer and Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt.
7. Gorgoroth has had many changes in their lineup. They’ve had the total amount of 21 different musician in the history of the band, while the only consistent member has always been Infernus. The current line up consists of guitarist Infernus, studio vocalist Atteringer and drummer Tomas Asklund.
8. The common misconception is that the most important/original members of Gorgoroth are Gaahl and King ov Hell. That is probably due to the fact that the band during that period of time has gained a lot of media attention due to Gaahl’s and King’s media persona and a lot of controversy sparking during those years.
9. Gaahl and King ov Hell wanted to kick out the founder and guitarist of Gorgoroth Infernus and claim the band their own, which led to the name dispute in October 2007. The dispute was concluded in March 2009 when a court verdict recognising Infernus as the legitimate user of the name was announced, and the outcome of the dispute also established a precedent in Norway for subsequent similar disputes. You can read the whole thing about that here.
10. Even though the vocals on the last released album Instinctus Bestialis were recorded by Atteringer, the live vocalist for the band is Hoest from another norwegian black metal band Taake.
