Too many AU ideas to ask, Rebelcaptain Surfer AU
Ok so the very first thing that I associate with surfing is always Surf's Up (2007) and since it is very, very late and I was deeply, deeply obsessed with that movie as a small child we're just gonna go a little bit unhinged and run with that as inspiration.
Are they penguins? Are they people? You decide.
Jyn learned to surf when she was very young from Saw coughbigzcough. She was a prodigy, but gave up surfing and vanished from the island where she grew up after his supposed drowning during a surf competition. She hasn't been back even once - until she turns up without explanation right before the memorial competition, ten years later
Cassian is a lifeguard, and one of the best surfers on the island besides. When Jyn returns she's immediately into him, but she keeps her distance and so does he. She knows she needs to work hard to get back her confidence on a board if she wants the slightest chance of getting into the competition, and he has his own shit to deal with.
They keep their distance, that is, until Cassian arrives to the remote beach he usually has to himself at dawn to find Jyn already there. She hasn't been surfing consistently since she was a teenager, and the water is rough. She's struggling, which makes her angry, which only makes her struggle more. After a particularly nasty spill Cassian ends up having to pull her out of the water and she wants to be even angrier at that but, well... fuck, he's hot. And ok, he did kinda save her life, maybe. And maybe he did have this beach first. She can put up with him. Just for a while.
They have fun together, those next couple of weeks, in and out of the water. They get each other, and neither denies the chemistry between them. But the competition is fast approaching, and they both have their own motives for competing that are far from simple, and those motives might not be entirely compatible...
