aTV Flash, Seas0nPass, and the Apple TV 2: Fixing DFU Errors

aTV Flash is an add-on to the Apple TV that makes it more useable by unchaining users from iTunes and Apple's limited video formats. For example, you can share AVI-formatted videos over your wireless network with an aTV-enabled Apple TV. While running aTV Flash can be a great experience, getting the damn thing on your Apple TV can be anything but. I spent over two hours trying to make it work. The shocking solution: Run the installation utility in Windows, not Mac!

Based on the forums out there, there are many recurring problems with installing aTV Flash. To be clear, in order to install aTV flash, you need to "jailbreak" your Apple TV (which is legal, as discussed in a previous post). In order to jailbreak, Firecore, the makers of aTV Flash, provide you with a free utility called Seas0nPass that allegedly runs on either Macs or PCs. Somewhat inexplicably, I was unable to get Seas0nPass to work on my mac. Specifically, my Apple TV failed at the "DFU" mode stage. No matter what I did, I could not move forward. Luckily, I did not have a single problem with the Windows version of Seas0nPass. Go figure!
