AU!Fairytale|| And then he met his king.
They said he had been blessed, the boy whose eyes were void of color. A crown would be placed upon his head one day and along side him would be the queen no one would second guess, but what the king did not know was that this blessing came with a double edged sword. The years had grown tedious with time, the blond constantly being introduced to suitors all across the nation, but there were none that breathed the life of the afternoon sky into his being. Today was another day spent in the throne room, the young prince being shook awake periodically as one fair maiden after the next was brought into the room. He wondered if they would ever know, that those they were bringing him, they would never be the one to fulfill their set future. A king with his queen, a woman fair and true, but there was no woman that would bring him to his knees. The young prince would much rather be venturing through the world beyond the castle walls, instead of sitting in this position of power that meant very little to him. He knew this was more for his father's benefit than his own, the man needing the reassurance of knowing that his bloodline was secure.
He was informed that a young princess would be arriving shortly from a neighboring country. Alaric nodded his head curtly, the young prince's features being unreadable, but his lips were also tight. His body language spoke of how he was unsure of how much longer he could be forced to sit through this torture, but his adviser gave him that look of hers that read if he knew what was best for him, he would remain in place. Fiddling impatiently with the ends of his tunic, he found himself wondering how his people did not see him as the hopeless ruler he would be. He had no interest in being in control of a nation, the blond being certain that he would never be ready to accept such a responsibility. He could not make the tough decisions that were required of a king. To know that he could be the rise or the fall of so many innocent lives... The very thought sent chills down his spine. When he saw the entrance doors to the great hall open, a shallow sigh escaped his lips, the blond anticipating the disappointment that was to soon come. Lifting his gaze, they settled upon the frame of a beautiful young woman, but when he looked at her, he felt nothing. But then there was someone behind her who caught his eye. A boy he had never seen before and suddenly the room went silent.
Do you see his eyes?
Their changing.
She's the one.
The whispers throughout the hall seemed endless, the young prince becoming frantic when he realized what it was that was happening. It had happened. He had seen the one he was meant to spend the rest of eternity with, but it was not with who they thought. No one else seemed to notice how his gaze continuously flickered towards the servant boy standing at the back of the hall, his heart beating so frantically he feared that the vessel would burst from the cavity of his chest at any given moment. His eyes darted between the various features that were currently surrounding him, the woman they thought was their new queen approaching him, her face alight with joy. The poor girl. Forcing a smile to his lips, he placed his lips to the girl's cheek to play along with the lie, the young prince then excusing himself from the room. Saying how he needed to find his father to tell him the news himself, but those had never been his intentions. Following the boy out through the main doors, he quickened his pace to catch up to him, the blond gripping his elbow gently as he pulled him into an empty hall. "I must speak with you."
