but imagine singledad!arthur finding out that his adopted son alfred has a twin brother out there somewhere - the two were split up at birth, and now alfred begs him to let him meet his brother. imagine arthur trying to get in touch with the other parents and finding out that it’s single father as well. imagine arthur trying to speak to the other dad, but francis barely knows any english so he just agrees to everything arthur says, including his sarcastic remark about the two families moving in together to let the boys get to know each other. imagine arthur and alfred waiting at the airport and meeting francis and matthew for the first time. imagine them finding out that apart from ‘yes’ and ‘hello’, francis can only speak french and uses matthew to translate. imagine the two families moving in together under the same roof and arthur trying to desperately hide his attraction to the most attractive man he’s ever seen for the sake of the boys.

arthur and francis are both single dads trying to support their kids, and trying to provide the best lives for alfred and mattie. to the kids’ faces they’re always nice and happy to see one another, but deep down they’ve known each other for a long time, and can’t stand to be around the other - just putting on the facade for the boys. there’s an affluent school that they both want the boys to go to, but the school is conservative and immediately rejects the applications for the boys because arthur and francis are single fathers, believing them to be unreliable deadbeats. rather than getting angry, though - francis devises a plan that will help both of them, and tells arthur they should get married.

where arthur is a by the book kinda guy that proclaims to everyone in the department that he doesn’t need a partner but it’s really because his previous partner was killed on the job and he blames himself for it. he particularly hates francis bonnefoy, and he tells everyone that francis only got the job because he slept with the supervisor and he’s not at ALL jealous of him and how people are drawn to him. and then the two of them are forced to work together and go undercover to try and bust the baddies, but being around each other all the time shows them that things aren’t what they thought.
