AU!storyline
When she went into the coma, Elena found herself in Purgatory. Elena had to battle to survive. She had to be better, faster, and stronger than everyone and everything else there. Everything she faced since she met the Salvatore brothers was nothing compared to Purgatory. Elena had sacrifice everything she believed in and valued in herself just so she could make it out of Purgatory. With the help of another vampire, Elena was transformed back into a vampire. Since Purgatory was not bound by the rules of ‘supernatural nature’, Elena’s transformation was possible. After a month of being in Purgatory as a vampire, rumors started to spread that if somebody absorbed an angel’s grace, they could make it out of Purgatory. What was not known was that only a pure heart could do it. The angel grace would destroy anybody unworthy if they dared to try to take it. It was risky, but Elena needed to get back to Mystic Falls, to her friends, to her family. Purgatory became a bigger blood bath as everyone was out to get the angel grace and get out. Elena’s sire wanted the grace for herself and Elena and her sire found themselves against each other for it. In the end, her sire got to the grace first, after brutally trying to destroy Elena. The grace killed her sire and Elena was able to have the grace, being the first vampire to ever successfully absorb angel grace. Before she could even process what had happened, Elena was back in Mystic Falls.
