Aubreigh Brennan -- one of many friends Cole had gotten to know through his cousin, Scarlett -- had always been just out of reach. In high school, she had hardly been allowed to date and in college, she and the Omega found themselves in different social circles. Aubreigh's carefree lifestyle (an act of rebellion from her parents' strict way of raising her) won her a spot in the Thetas while Cole's sports-mindedness and laidback attitude caught the attention of the Omegas.
For seven years, Aubreigh was right there cheering Cole and his team on at games -- five of which Cole spent trying to get closer to the blonde. They became friends through association, but the time never seemed to be right for Cole to make any moves. When one was single, the other was usually seeing someone.
Cole knew that Brei hadn't always been the girl everyone at UVA knew her as (the nympho), but, given her new status, he wasn't sure that he would be up to the task of wooing her if it meant first entering into a more casual relationship first. Following closely in the footsteps of Mitch -- his frat brother and, as Cole had recently discovered, his half-brother -- Cole used his charm to convince the Theta to go away to Monte Carlo to celebrate the new year with a group of his friends. Lust got the better of them both on their trip and they found themselves in bed together multiple times in the four days they were gone. For Cole, however, there was still that desire for something more substantial.
It wasn't like Cole to be this nervous for a date, but, in his mind, this particular date with this particular girl was a long time coming. He sought advice from his roommate beforehand, but embarrassment over how long he'd been interested in Aubreigh led him to lie about the exact reasons for his anxiety. He reminded himself that this was Aubreigh and that she'd said yes to dinner before calling her up and asking her when she might be free so he could pick her up for their date.
When he arrived at the Theta house, he triple-checked his outfit and hair before knocking. Another girl let him inside and he headed down the hall where he knocked on Aubreigh's door.
