I think when Emma first meets Faren she's calling her Aubrey instead. just based on vibes. and Faren's not really used to being called by her first name! really only her parents call her Aubrey. she shouldn't mind, her name IS Aubrey, but. it's off-putting. her parents are the only ones who call her Aubrey and her parents are also the only ones who know she's a werewolf. but now Emma also knows that she is a werewolf, and Emma is also calling her Aubrey. it's like. she JUST met Emma, who does she think she is to put herself on the same level as Faren's parents?? her first name feels too vulnerable. it weirds her out.

she doesn't say anything though. just lets it go at first. she doesn't think she'll see much of Emma again, they exchange numbers just in case but she's really hoping Emma will keep her mouth shut and leave her be. but they keep crossing paths and Emma keeps casually chatting her up and keeps calling her Aubrey and it's making her feel WEIRD! she doesn't want to talk to Emma, she doesn't want to be friends with Emma, she doesn't want Emma to know what she knows. Faren starts to avoid Emma, tries to quietly shut her out without making a scene. it's not targeted, she just doesn't want to be close with anyone.

and that kinda pisses Emma off! the damn wolf came to HER farm and ate HER weed! SHE didn't do anything, she thought they were getting along. they WERE getting along, Faren does like Emma, she thinks she's funny! but for whatever reason she wants nothing to do with Emma, and Emma hasn't done anything to even hint that she's untrustworthy. who is Aubrey to decide that? Emma can keep a secret, she can help. she's sick of being written off and shut out by people who refuse to know her. she's part of this now, she's gonna be part of it. she's chill about it, she's just saying hello when they cross paths, shooting a text near the full moon to make sure Aubrey's good. it's out of spite more than anything it's not like she actually cares. Aubrey could block her if she wanted and she hasn't yet. so.

I just like Emma's more vulnerable, trying-to-prove-herself, kinda rejection sensitive side, I find it really compelling and I wanna pair her with someone who's extremely guarded and reserved. who's more lonely and avoidant than she is. who doesn't even dislike her, doesn't have any grudges or biases, is just scared. someone whose walls she can gradually erode.
