An Excerpt: Chronicles of Luminia

This is an excerpt from Aubrey Simone, one half of the duo that is Freya Rose, from her work in progress, Chronicles of Luminia: The Last Prince

  "'The plan goes as expected. Luminia's line of succession is wiped out but for the Fifth Prince, whom you will encounter in the mountains of Cardeth. Capture him, and the world that we have strived for will be within our grasp. - Slade.'"

Rian choked, and snatched the letter from me with shaking hands. I ached for him, and when he looked to me, I couldn't help the sorrow that pooled in my stomach. "I am sorry, Highness."

The prince shook his head. "No, this isn't right, it isn't! My family can't be...They aren't dead!" He crumpled the paper and threw it away from him as though it had burned his fingers, and then clenched his hands at his sides and glared. "We go back to Luminia. I won't let this lie frighten me away."

"Highness, we can't go back there now," I denied. "Your safety is our first priority, and—"

"You are duty-bound to obey me, are you not, Allona?"

His question rankled, but I nodded nonetheless. "For life."

"Then you will take me back to Luminia," he ordered, jabbing a finger in the direction of the crumpled letter, "and we will see that that is a lie."
