Today.
It’s thursday evening in Auckland and today was beautiful. What I have noticed about Auckland is how fast the weather can change, people here say sometimes you can get all four seasons in just one day. Even when it’s rainy, cloudy and cold Auckland still has a beautiful vibe to it. I also learned today that the Maori people of New Zealand refer to the Auckland as aotearoa.
(The original derivation of Aotearoa is not known for certain. The word can be broken up as: ao = cloud, dawn, daytime or world, tea = white, clear or bright and roa = long. It can also be broken up as Aotea = the name of one of the migratory waka that travelled to New Zealand, or the Large Magellanic Cloud, and roa = long. The common translation is "the land of the long white cloud".)
I found this out by commenting about how low the clouds sit sometimes over the city which is extremely beautiful. The Maori people are the natives of new zealand who I learn more and more about everyday. They originated with settlers from eastern polynesia, who arrived in new zealand on canoes. For now that is all i have learned and I do have a lot more to learned over the next 12 months of being in New Zealand.

It’s time to close-out these New Zealand posts. I’ll spend a bit more time here as, now that I’ve left Frank, The Dog, I’m staying with a cat named Solie, fourteen sheep, and a dead bird (Solie brought me a present this morning). Anyway, this is where I tell you what was good about New Zealand, and more specifically Auckland), what was bad, and who I need to thank for helping me along the way.…
