A note

I’m facing a dilemma, which is that I never had that one consistent place to stash my music, so that in the future (which is now) - I would be able to keep creating music without feeling  disorganized. Like, where have I placed all of my music? Some of it is in one place, some in another. Always, this was done in different formats, sometimes as “albums” but other times as individual tracks. 

There is a certain site where I have my music more organized (but still not to my satisfaction), but it still uses flash, and lately browsers have been marking it “not secure.” I won’t mention the name of the site, because I think it is quite good, and maybe over time I will be able to use it more again. 

Anyway, the point is, I need to find that one sort of low key (low stress?) place to stash my back catalogue, so I feel like I can continue on in the present. I’m thinking like a page with a list of audio files, and of course one that I feel like it wouldn’t be a bit much to upload massive gigabytes of audio files quickly. I have a few ideas, but I’ll have to think about this some more. 

You know, I’ve always thought I should have all of my music on my youtube channel by now too, but the problem has been that I have to make an audio into a video. This isn’t hard, but when I make music, I make audio files primarily. It is a whole other step. 

I wish I had started my bandcamp page in a more organized way, and simply uploaded my entire back catalogue at the time there. I still might. It might be time for one very big Archive page. I don’t know yet.

video, audio, and the web

Really, videos do look best on Vimeo. But hardly anybody sees them. Youtube lets a person upload unlimited videos, while Vimeo has a limit - unless one gets a paid account. Not too many see my videos on youtube either. And, video quality often has to suffer for sake of faster upload. Of course, then there is the almighty Google, synonymous with the web. Hated by some, yet loved by others. Obviously, either way, they do know a lot about each and every user.

The Internet Archive is often overlooked, but actually a great place to upload video, audio, images, and pretty much anything. My videos and audios do seem to get seen and heard there. At least that is what the counter tells me. Are they close to the spy apparatus? Maybe. Who knows? 

There are plenty of places to upload only audio. Bandcamp makes things the easiest for musicians. And they seem to understand what musicians want made easy. Tindeck is a less known, but great site for uploading audio. 

Will the time come when everybody is sharing directly from his or her own personal Google (or Zoho?) drive. Maybe it could turn out that way. As long as the internet remains open enough to do this. But does it all become like the tree falling in the forest with nobody in range to hear? Hmmm.
