So I was listening to the Doom 3DO soundtrack last night, sort of in awe at how perfect it is. While there are lots of takes that turn the Doom soundtrack in to heavy metal (fitting of what inspired it), the Doom 3DO soundtrack is closer to what actual CD-based video game music sounded like in the early-to-mid 90′s: big ol’ stinky cheese.
So, I got inspired, and decided to try my own take. It wasn’t supposed to have the heavy metal guitar amp over it, but sometimes things sing to you in a certain way. It’s much improved over the last version I put out four years ago.
That would have been the end of things, but this post serves a double purpose: citing upcoming changes in European copyright law, Tindeck will be shutting down on August 1st. Many years ago, I paid to become a lifetime Tindeck Premium member, meaning I could upload as much as I wanted at full quality. I have quite the archive of music living at Tindeck.
When Tindeck shuts down, a lot of that music will be going away. I have a Soundcloud, but Soundcloud’s pricing structure is a lot more strict than Tindeck’s. With Tindeck, I paid once and got a lifetime pass. Soundcloud seriously wants something like $140 a year. I will not be paying Soundcloud for that service. As such, only a limited selection of recent music will be available on my Soundcloud.
To spell things out for you: If you value any of the music I have on Tindeck, download it now. It won’t be around much longer.
For the record, I think the owner of Tindeck is hiding behind the change in UK law to justify getting rid of this anchor around his neck. Tindeck was actively advertising on every page that they were looking to sell the website off for something like two years -- and apparently never found a buyer. It’s obvious the guy doesn’t want to do this anymore, and this is probably his guilt-free way of getting out. A shame, but you gotta do what you gotta do, I guess.
