Hello! I just wanted to ask how did you edit the audio on the magnus archives to make them sound like they were being recorded on a tape? I've been making recordings of some statements my friend's written but I'm not too sure how to edit them!
Get a recording of a tape player. Lower the volume and run it underneath.
Use an aggressive Equaliser (EQ) to strip out high and low frequencies in a bell curve prioritising standard speech frequencies.
Pro Tip: It can be hard to find a good preset EQ for this so if you don't know how to do it yourself hunt around for a "telephone" EQ preset. It'll have the same effect.
We often treated recording as a snapshot of where we were as a band at that moment, but Joan (Jett) reminded us that recording was not neutral; it was an art in itself. She showed us that containing our rawness beneath a pop sheen could create an undeniable tension. And putting some effects on my voice wasn't the equivalent of airbrushing me out of the picture. I was a strong enough vocalist to blow through a little sheen and still be heard. I also learned it was okay to have fun in the studio. We'd always been stressed about money and had just gotten stuff done as quickly as we could. And then when we mixed, I'd be so freaked out that I'd hide somewhere and smoke a pack of cigarettes instead of listening to the sound of my own voice. But this was different. (...) At the end (of recording Miss Mary Mack as the intro to "Demirep",) you can hear me say, "They're laughing at us," and Joan replies, "We're having fun!"
While cassettes and CDs are now staples on artists' merch tables, tech companies are starting to make physical media players again. But are they any good? The Verge’s Andru Marino finds out why today’s bulky cassette and CD players may not be able to compete with the innovative designs of the 2000s.
Computer using mutuals I need your assistance once more:
Are there any Speakers that light up and are cool, but that can have their lights turn off without needing to be unplugged? I can't seem to find any that specify they can be turned off. Any recs?
The pair I inherited from my godfather are nice, but I have to get under the desk at bedtime and unplug them because they are SO BRIGHT they light up the whole room when I'm tryna sleep and it's ANNOYING AF.
Here are some shots of my audio equipment/setup. Most of my gear i aquired over time slowly upgrading one part of my setup after another I often switch my equipment around to get a different color to the sound. This equipment may not be the best organized or looking but i can assure you the sound beats even the most expensive systems i have run into.
