Yesterday afternoon we caught up with some AudioBlood artists at The Marriott. Interviews were going on everywhere so we had to find a quiet spot away from it all. The closest place was a ladies washroom. Check out Miesha & The Spanks and I bet you will become a fan.
ok, you don't know me and I dont know you, and I certainly dont know that awful anonymous person who said those disgusting things but just as I was beginning to think that humanity couldn't sink any lower, I read that comment... Seriously people, get a life and grow a heart.

After years of Audio Blood racking their brains as to what it is that truly breaks a band, turns out the answer was always just right beneath our nose. It all comes down to that sacred cup of coffee, the one you just can’t go without. We traced that trail and came to the conclusion that neighbourhood coffee shops hold the key to success more than ever before. They are slowly replacing living rooms, offices, and are trusted sources of culture. Coffee shops are taste makers not just when it comes to the perfect brew, but when it comes to leading new trends. Artists and coffee have been in bed together for ages. It’s about time we marry the two. And who better to trust with our tunes, than the ones we entrust with our sacred cup of coffee. Flagship Coffee Shops: - Lit Expresso Bar (810 College St., Toronto) - Lit Expresso Bar (221 Roncesvalles Ave., Toronto) - Jimmy’s Coffee (107 Portland St., Toronto) - Saving Gigi (859 Bloor St. W, Toronto) - Capital Espresso (1349 Queen St. W, Toronto) - Cafe Pamenar (307 Augusta Ave., Toronto) - Ideal Coffee (84 Nassau St., Toronto) - Ideal Coffee (162 Ossington Ave., Toronto) - Niche Coffee and Tea Company (626 Queen St. W, Toronto) - White Squirrel Coffee (907 Queen St. W, Toronto)

The Currency of Poetry signifies her third solo project. Papillon recorded the album at Montreal’s The Treatment Room (Timber Timbre, Stars, Plants and Animals). In theUS, The Currency of Poetry will be available through the American Indie label Constant Clip Records. This will not only be Papillon’s first project with Constant Clip, but Papillon will be the first Canadian artist to release an album with the label.
Kicking off in Edmonton on September 16th, Papillon will embark on an extensive national tour - her third cross-Canada tour to date - alongside Kim Wempe (Groundswell). The tour will see her stop in to perform at Halifax Pop Explosion Festival before ending at one of her home bases on November 29th for her Montreal release. BIO
Singer-songwriter Gabrielle Papillon experienced music for the first time before she was even born, nestled safely in her mother’s womb as her parents attended a Grateful Dead concert. Her first foray into the musical sphere was as a toddler, when she started humming her own melodies. Her involvement with music continued to grow as she did. She wrote her first songs at fourteen after learning to play basic chords on the guitar before forming several bands with her brother throughout high school. While neither can remember the names of any of the bands they created together - after all, what’s in a name anyway? - The hours logged rehearsing in their basement proved invaluable to Papillon.
In 2001 she released her first album Songs for a Rainy Day through independent producer, Concept Studios. Adjourning from her music career for nearly eight years, Papillon completed her B.A. and Master’s degree, only to emerge with fresh tunes in her head and a more developed musical style. By way of cars, buses, planes and trains Papillon began touring full-time in June of 2010. She has since completed two cross-Canada tours and has been touring almost non-stop across the Prairies, Ontario, and Eastern Canada. Since playing Halifax’s In the Dead of Winter Festival in January 2010 and 2011, Papillon’s music has found its way onto local and regional CBC airwaves as well as onto CBC Radio 3s rotation.
February 2011 saw her journeying to Memphis for an official Performance Alley showcase at the 23rd International Folk Alliance Conference. With only a few days off to prepare, she then left on an extended two-and-a-half month tour across Canada, playing 40 shows and traveling with frequent touring partner, Ambre McLean.
Papillon is currently getting ready to venture out on her third Cross-Canada tour with Kim Wempe and preparing to release her third solo project (October 2011) recorded at Montreal’s Treatment Room (Plants and Animals, The Acorn, Timber Timbre, Stars, Snailhouse.) This is all while plotting a course to record her fourth and most ambitious project in 2012. She will also be playing a showcase at the 2011 incarnation of the HalifaxPOP Explosion festival in October.
She has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Amelia Curran, Royal Wood, Del Barber, Forest City Lovers, Roxanne Potvin and Christine Bougie, Olenka and the Autumn Lovers, Jon Brooks, Sean Ashby, Scott Cook, Ryan MacGrath, Chris Wynters (Captain Tractor), and Debra-Jean and the Means.
Influenced by guitar slinging troubadours such as Ani Difranco, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon, her music is often about a feeling. Her muse is the amalgamation of people in her life, or even an imaginary scenario. Above all, she loves the journey of a song.

CARMEL MIKOL NAMED A GRAND PRIZE WINNER IN THE JOHN LENNON SONGWRITING CONTEST, CURRENTLY ON TOUR IN THE U.S
Halifax based Carmel Mikol has been awarded a Grand Prize from the 2011 John Lennon Songwriting Contest (JLSC) in the Folk category. "Twenty Something Girl" is the winning entry from Mikol's sophomore album Creature, released just last month.
The JLSC is an international contest open to both amateur and professional songwriters which allows them to submit entries in any one of twelve categories. Mikol has been named one of the 12 Lennon Award Winners in the first of two award sessions and will now contend for the coveted "Song of the Year."
Creature has received an overwhelmingly positive response since it's August 9 release on Sound of Pop/Fontana Records. The album is uniquely accompanied by a companion book of poetry and prose titled "Creature of Habit", which gives fans a deeper look into the artistic context of Creature - both are available for preview and purchase at carmelmikol.com. A triple East Coast Music Award nominee in 2011, Mikol's career as a musician and songwriter has been met with acclaim for a number of years. And this prolific writer is no stranger to awards, having taken home both Great American Song Contest and International Singer Songwriter Awards in 2010.
Carmel Mikol continues her sweep of the States with dates in New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Wisconsin and Illinois and will share the stage with Canadian JUNO Award winner Amelia Curran for a number of the dates.

BIO A triple nominee at the 2011 East Coast Music Awards, Carmel Mikol has always been a songwriter. From her childhood on a family farm in rural Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, to her current "home" on the road, Mikol has built her life around crafting songs, collecting stories, and carving poetry out of the human experience. After a year of touring extensively across Canada and the US with her celebrated debut album "In My Bones", Mikol recently returned home to Cape Breton to create her newest recording Creature. An Americana-tinged confluence of acoustic and electric guitar, banjo, mandolin, and unaffected vocals, Creature was recorded live off the floor with her band at Cape Breton's award winning Lakewind Sound Studio (Gordie Sampson/Fred Lavery). From the overtly political Twenty Something Girl to the deeply personal I Miss The Moon, Creature is a fresh take on traditional folk song fodder: wayward politics, social change, and poignant, fictional "true" stories. "I'm not sure which takes more courage for me - singing honestly about my losses or taking on newspaper headlines," Mikol admits. Either way, the album reveals her as a truly unique voice in the Canadian songwriter landscape. Mikol's songwriting has garnered her international attention, winning the folk category in the 2011 John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the 2010 Great American Song Contest and International Singer Songwriter Awards Song Contest. A fan favourite at festivals in Atlantic Canada and the US (Folk Harbour, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia; Deep Roots, Wolfville, Nova Scotia; 30-A Songwriters Fest, Florida), Mikol has shared stages with Garnet Rogers, Connie Kaldor, David Francey, Amelia Curran, David Myles, Meghan Smith, Jimmy Rankin, and Matt Anderson. In 2010, she performed in CBC's Studio H for Concerts on Demand and developed and produced "Roots to the Future", a new creation project for Cape Breton's Celtic Colours International Festival. Mikol also participated in a month-long artist residency alongside four internationally acclaimed artists in the 2011 Escape To Create program.
