Cymatics
Cymatics is the study and visualisation of audio vibrations using mediums such as liquids and powdered solids placed on a membrane.
Science & Sound
In the initial research stages I made sure to collect audio recordings of the sound and noise heard a commuter experiences during their wait as well as their journey. While researching how it would be possible to integrate noise into textiles, I came across some science experiments where artists used the vibrations of their sound pieces to create visuals. This study, known as cymatics, provided as a great example that could move my research one step further.
The artist that inspired me the most to pursue this line of questioning was Nigel Stanford. In the video below, he has captured the sound vibrations that create movement in solids, liquids, fire and current. It is truly inspiring!
