Today we celebrate the legendary Audre Lorde - writer, feminist and civil rights activist, who inspires thousands of commuters daily when passing through the 167 Street (B/D) station in the Bronx in Rico Gatson’s mosaic “Beacons” (2018). Tonight, The Audre Lorde Project is celebrating Audre Lorde’s lasting legacy on the occasion of her 85th birthday, while honoring the LGBTSTGNC Communities of Color in New York. The celebration is free! https://alp.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=142

We are committed to removing boundaries and creating new opportunities for black and brown people, inclusive of the LGBTQIA community, through the utilization of our platforms and business. We will continue to listen. We will continue to learn. We will continue to grow. We are supporting the NAACP and hope you will join us through the link below. We look to programs like The Audre Lorde Project and ACLU for additional resources to enact change.

So we drove to the Headlands for the slightly fresher, cooler, air, and we found these texts inside a tunnel. The poster was likely referencing Susan Sontag’s “The impulse to create begins — often terribly and fearfully — in a tunnel of silence,” from her essay “The Aesthetics of Silence”. “The transformation of silence into language and action” is an essay from Audre Lorde’s book “Sister Outsider” on the Vulnerability of Visibility and Our Responsibility, to Ourselves and Others, to Break Our Silences. The second selection of posted texts were weathered and torn pieces of Paulo Freire’s “Pedagogy of the Oppressed”. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #socialpracticeart #socialpractice #intersectional #audrelordeproject #intersectionalfeminism #artwatchers #blackpoet #intersectionality #blackwomenart #silence #arthistory #bayareaart #bayareaartist #sfart #sfartgallery #sanfranciscoart #artnow #thisaintartschool #SFgate #creativeEconomy #contemporaryarts #artcontemporary #contemporaryartist #galleryart #artmuseum #museumart #hyperallergic #artforum #beautifuldecay #sfartscene (at Marin Headlands) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEN7iqeFYqy/?igshid=8kxqyuso1tgy
