Augill Castle
Augill Castle is located in Cumbria, England. Built in 1841 By John Pearson as a weekend retreat. John was the eldest brother of two, and allegedly after an argument, he wanted to build a house bigger and better than his brother’s. The castle boasts turrets, mullioned windows, castellated towers, and ornate lattice windows. The interior has a servants’ hall, kitchens, larders, a pantry, a drawing room, a great hall, a sitting room, a library, turret wardrobes, claw-footed tubs, and stained-glass windows. In 1997, Simon and Wendy Bennett purchased the run-down Victorian country house. The Bennett’s renovated the castle, and it currently serves as a family-run boutique hotel with The Music Room restaurant and The Great British Bar. The castle sits on twenty acres with gardens. Augill Castle has thirteen bedrooms, suites, and cottages in which to stay.
