August Schellenberg, who starred in the first three Free Willy movies as a Native American mentor, lost the battle with cancer at age 77.
His agent Jamie Levitt confirmed the sad news, saying that Schellenberg passed away in Dallas, Texas last Thursday.
His most recent roles were in Stargate Universe in 2011 and the Canadian drama The Last Movie in 2012.
August Shellenberg was born in Montreal and studied at the city's National Theatre School.
"A role model for so many of NTS grads and students. A fascinating life, a stellar trajectory. A great loss" school's director Simon Brault tweeted.
He made his film debut in 1971's made-in-Toronto Rip Off, and in the US he appeared in shows like Walker, Texas Ranger and Grey's Anatomy.
Shellenberg is survived by his wife, actress Joan Karasevich, and his three daughters.
We here at PopWrapped offer our deepest condolences to his family at this difficult time.
