This was a highly unexpected arrival, the TARDIS was being.... stubborn, and in that stubbornness it ended up leaving the Doctor stranded in the middle of who knows where. 

“Not again!” He shouted, “At least you could have told me where I was, what time it was, and could have left me my jacket!”

The Ingestible Preparation and Sanitation Appliance.

The IPSA was intended to make making meals both more safe from a sanitation perspective, and more efficient from a labor perspective, while remaining sustainable from an energy-use perspective, by heating food placed within it to 165F / 73C within 30-65 seconds. With this in mind, its designer made it compact (using foldable recycled plastic) and solar powered. The IPSA was tested both in terms of intensity of heat, amount of food prepared in it, and longevity, and after a year, was pronounced ready for field use.

However, the designer forgot to take into account issues like elevation and relative oxygenation. Under certain conditions, rather than heating food, the IPSA would collapse, reducing itself and its contents to a molten, biodegradable, inedible blob within 2.3 seconds.

This earned it the nickname “the Hellstove”.

Eight & Ilona - Beasties are pissed off because of malfunction, split up into eat-them-all, and oh-cut-it-out-let's-just-fix-this-shit. (The second group isn't actively hostile, but isn't super eager to intervene.)

Eight fixes the malfunction, Ilona manages to talk down the really hostile ones long enough for them to run like hell. Non-hostile decide screw it, not worth the aggravation, and head home.

Ilona thinks Eight is a little sketchy, but is reasonably sure he isn't an active threat.

Abandoned City - therapardalis​

Ilona follows Thera's lead, since she knows what's what. Chocolate is involved.   They finally set up camp outside of the city. The scientists then try to insist that they really can do some useful work. 

Ilona shuts them down so that Thera can explain exactly why they're wrong, wrong, WRONG. Convinced, they leave in the morning. Ilona still has a LOT of questions, but leaves them unasked-- she prizes Thera's friendship more highly than the information.

Move Fast, Stay Low

Unfortunately, the Doctor was quite oblivious to that effort. Centuries of an excellent memory (give or take) and strong sense of direction (mostly) often kept him from considering what it may have been like for anyone else.

He stopped at an intersection, looking left and right - then turning, lips pursed, at the gently phrased but rather thorny question. “Other lifeforms? Personal experience, my dear. You see … ” He leaned forward a little offering a kindly smile, “I am one. Now, let’s be moving along. You see these pipes running overhead, here? I’m rather curious to see where they lead.”

... so it looked like her attention was going to be split between watching for threats, trying to memorize their path, and keeping track of the Doctor, which was going to be incredibly-- well, fine, okay, at least she wasn't going to be bored, right?

Right.

Especially given his answer, although, all things considered, there wasn't any reason to be too worried about it, since Intel's stat report suggested that no more than 57% of post-contact extra-terrestrial lifeforms were actively trying to kill humans, so the odds were that this guy was on their side, or at least not dangerous. Theoretically.

So she turned her attention to the pipes. "What's so interesting about them?" They didn't have any unusual markings-- that she could see, anyway.
