It’s day 31 of the #vinylobjectchallenge from @vinylalan73 and @paettes: Light. Splinter - The Place I Love (Dark Horse, 1975) “China Light, come shine your light on me Make this night the night for you and me Like the East wind you came softly, touched my heart I knew We were meant to be together, sharing as we do.” Those lyrics, while more problematic than profound at least give me an opportunity to share this curiously overlooked album. A passion project for George Harrison, he put a lot of heart, soul, and craft into showcasing the talents of these two. Didn’t really take off - maybe because of those slightly empty-headed lyrics, which pervade the album - but it is a luscious slab of seventies goodness! It’s day 30 of the #vinylobjectchallenge from @vinylalan73 and @paettes: Letter. Novelty Daughter - Semigoddess (Stereocure, 2016) The song “Love-Hate Letter” made me think of this for today’s prompt, but it’s never a bad time to listen to and share this lost classic of the last decade. I say “lost” because so few people were as passionate about this album as I am. If you like cutting-edge electronic music overtopped with lush, jazz-inflected vocals, this is for you. After releasing two subsequent albums, its creator, the amazing Faith Harding, also seems to have left the public eye - I hope she’s OK. Hearing her sing live was astonishing and I wish that privilege on all of you. It’s day 26 of the #vinylobjectchallenge from @vinylalan73 and @paettes: Bust. Various Artists - Beethoven Bicentennial Collection: Vol. IX Chamber Music (Deutsche Grammophon, 1972) This comes from a huge set that my father subscribed to in the early 1970s, probably the last serious vinyl collecting he did. And I remember it was very serious business indeed when the latest installment came in. He would carefully unpack it and listen to the whole thing. Occasionally, there were manufacturing problems and he would have to send it back. They’re all excellent performances, though and after he died I selected the rarer repertoire like Folk Songs and Arias and Lieder and Dance Music.
