It’s been years since either of them have had a roommate on the road, but they’ve settled in for the night in Raleigh, and there’s a knock at Brock’s door.
“Hey,” Petey says when it’s opened, “can I…?”
“Yeah,” Brock agrees immediately, “yeah. C’mon.”
Wordlessly, they resume their usual positions. Brock takes the right side of the bed, Petey politely takes off his shoes and sits on the left side. Some cable TV movie is playing on low volume, and the two of them watch in comfortable silence, neither of them particularly invested in the dramatized chase scene unfolding.
“Boes,” Petey eventually murmurs, soft as usual.
“What’s up?” Brock mumbles back.
“Thank you.”
Brock hums inquisitively, turning his head the slightest bit. Petey’s hand sneaks across the crisp white duvet, find’s Brock’s, squeezes tightly.
“For staying,” Petey clarifies, “even if you kept us waiting.”
