So my last post about being a #girl – The poem above was inspired by my niece, my brother’s daughter, who holds a special place in my heart. Maybe it comes from vanity, as everyone says she is the most like me with similar mannerisms :P or maybe its because she was the first girl I saw grow up before my eyes. She was born when I was 19 and I was going through my own transition from girl to woman and here was this delicate thing. My sister (especially her) and I grew up really fast, and I loved the childlike quality that she maintained for the longest time (I still miss it to be honest – cause now she is an teenage who knows everything :P). The innocence and gentleness was something that I both admire and worried about. So, I protected her - probably overprotected her. But as she got older, I realized that the greatest lessons we learn come from trying, failing and succeeding. So this poem is about letting go to let people fly. . . . . . #FreedomForGirls #Dayofthegirl #InternationalDayoftheGirl #IDG #InternationalDayoftheGirl2017 #IDG2017 #wednesdaywisdom #GirlsBelongHere #BecauseIAmaGirl #family #auntsandnieces #neicelove #growingup #takingchances
