Choreography: Martha Graham Music by: Zoltan Kodaly Danced by: Peggy Lyman Created in 1930, filmed in 1976. Martha Graham Dance Company
Re-posting this because its one of my favourite ever pieces, and a huge source of inspiration in the process of my new work. Its a pure expression of grief, and it makes sense for me in the context of (Un)Covered not just because of the use of costume, but because (Un)Covered is many things- a protest, an attempt to create an image of change, and also an expression of grief- grief that after so much effort, so little has changed for women globally even since this was made in 1930. History and anachronism is a thread for me, so here is a throw back and homage to aunty Martha, always in my heart, hips, and burning in my centre!
