One of the more egregious changes 2007 makes is that constancy of feelings discussion happens between Anne and Benwick (instead of Harville) and it takes place in Lyme instead of Bath and Wentworth doesn't overhear it!!! Like, what is even the point of you, 2007 Persuasion

Oh wow, does it? This could easily be why I was struggling to remember how the Anne/Harville scene went, if it NEVER HAPPENED. And now I’m like...HOW DOES THE FURTIVE LETTERING HAPPEN? DO I WANT TO REVISIT IT AND FIND OUT? DID WE BLOW THE ENTIRE BUDGET ON RUNNING AROUND WITH GO-PRO CAMERAS AND NOW WE’VE BEEN FORCED TO CUT THE ENTIRE ENDING?

The oughties were a weird time for Austen, but I guess no weirder than other eras, in retrospect. But I feel like ‘07 Persuasion particularly doesn’t hold up.

Pitch is like the entire reason that I’m holding out because the other TV cliche I hate the most is GOOD SHOWS DYING YOUNG.

When I worked at a big box when I was 19 there was muzak piped in. Every day around 4pm it would play my least favorite song and one of the guys I worked with would sing it to me over the walkie talkie while I was doing the closing store announcements so I would fuck up on them. So yeah, I love the music of superstore

MUZAK, that’s terrible, and also: that is super annoying to have happen at the end of the night when you just. want to go. HOME. 

(I have never worked somewhere with Muzak, but I did work at the GAP the year it used “Give a Little Bit” for its Christmas ads, and the way they did the music then was basically a loop of 25 or so songs, and there were at least four different covers in that loop, one of which was by the Goo Goo Dolls, so you’d hear that one song like 8 or 10 times a shift. They did that the year they did the “Love Train” ads, too, that might have been the year before or after. Like working retail in the mall at the holiday season didn’t make you feel crazy enough.)

First off, you need a fire extinguisher! Secondly, was your gossip podcast who weekly because I love them

My sister caught me on facetime and was literally like, “T, Auntie doesn’t have a fire extinguisher.” And this 7yo boy, silently, gave me this look like, what are you, a fucking idiot?

The podcast I started was laineygossip.com’s Show Your Work, which didn’t have a great first ep, but I’m willing to hang in because generally I like the site. I’ma have to check out the one you mentioned, though! This is my first foray into gossip pods, I usually listen to “here we talk about some TV thing.”

(I’m literally not trying to be patronizing) but I start all my research at Wikipedia. Their references can send you to further reading! I’m actually now reading about nazism in Sweden since you commented about it.

@see-you-next-tuesdayy Yeeeah, I think I honestly just need to go back to school, literally or figuratively - I don’t really have enough knowledge to be an effective debater. Wikipedia can be overwhelming to me, not great for someone who’s easily distracted - it usually ends with me having 50 tabs open and I only got through the first sentence on that first page before I started looking up other things. ><

I am trying to get better about following more local news, so I feel you. Like what does it matter that I know what agent orange is doing if I don’t know what is happening a few blocks away?

Lol agent orange, yeah, I have the same problem but worse: I know WAY too much about American politics compared to what I know about my own country, because for some reason American politics is super fascinating to my brain but Swedish politics mostly puts me to sleep. Even before Trump was a thing US politics interested me more, and now it’s just a fullblown circus. But yeah, I need to try and take an interest in local happenings, it’s just very hard in this age of information overload and 1 billion news being available to you.
