[ I stated I was considering leaving the fandom for a while, I was asked my opinion of what the fandom was doing wrong, I answered honestly, and everyone assumed I was speaking about them specifically. ]
[ Now this is pretty much what I got from what I’ve been reading, and I do see why people got upset, but they did ask what your opinion was and you were straight forward about it. I’m not angry at anybody so please I don’t want anyone to take this wrong way or think that I’m upset with you, but it really seem like everyone took this way too personally.
How in the world do you know he’s talking about you? I can understand that a lot of you are very self-conscious about yourself and your writing (that’s 80% of tumblr) but the moment someone even tries to speak their mind, the entire world crumbles because nobody can take criticism. I’m sorry, but you can’t have everyone tell you you’re perfect forever, because that just makes you believe in a fake reality. There is no reason for anybody to sit there and insult you for your skill, but at the same time everybody has the ability to improve. I’ve been here not as long as he has but quite awhile, and I’ve seen blogs come and go… but I’ve seen those of you who have stayed improve greatly.
As much as most of you think that’s not true, it really is, and I’m proud of you guys. Now I’ve stayed in my little corner of the fandom basically the entire time, so about the people doing some bad things (I suppose you can explain that to me, Siffie) I haven’t really seen. But on top of your improvement, your response to his opinion wasn’t exactly the greatest—at least some of you. What’s the point of making passive-aggressive comments? That isn’t helping your opinions; in fact, it’s making yourself look bad. It reminds me of the rest of the assholes on tumblr who freak out on those who have an opinion about large fandoms, and I really don’t want to include you guys into that category. I’ve also dealt with a lot of passive-aggressiveness with my family (I still do) and this is the place I go to in order to escape that stuff—I don’t want it here, either.
Long story short, I can understand why you guys got upset but you can’t take everything that’s said on here so personally. Instead of getting so upset about something that wasn’t directed toward you personally, why not ask for constructive criticism instead? (Someone did it already, so good for you) I’m sad to say that I’m a bit afraid of posting this in fear of someone thinking that I hate you all, but I just want to let you all know my own opinion. I promise you all that I’m not taking sides—it’s just not something I do. ]
