This photo taken around this time last year, shows a Golden Currant, or Ribes aureum, a member of the gooseberry/currant family native throughout the western United States. The plant is cultivated for ornament as well as for its fruit to a lesser degree. If grows quite easily wild in parts of Southern California alongside other family members such as Ribes speciosum.
