Mano de sombra danza por mi frente más allá de la sed y del sueño. Me protege un paisaje de pájaros inmóviles. Si supiera tu nombre... ¡te llamaría silencio!
“A veces hago un viaje.” Aurora Reyes Flores
Aurora Reyes (1908-1985) Poet and painter, she was the first female Mexican muralist. She was born in an illustrious family of the Porfirian regime, so after the Ten Tragic Days her family suffered political persecution. In 1921 she began studying at the National Preparatory School, where she met Frida Kahlo and they became great friends. She was later expelled from school and accused of being a "libertine and gang leader". She did not finish her studies and preferred to be self-taught, but still participated in group exhibitions in France, Cuba, the United States and Mexico. Aurora was a member of the Mexican Communist Party and founded the League of Revolutionary Writers and Artists. She also promoted the rights of women to vote and hold public office. Aurora Reyes deserves a place in the history of Mexican plastic art; we should know and admire her work. #forgottenwomeninhistory #aurorareyes #muralist #Mexican #muralism #art #painter #paintings #womeninhistory #womeninart #artist #history
