Australian Open Women’s Final Wrap Up
Angelique Kerber beat Serena Williams in an crazy three set match. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to watch it, but I started listening to AO Radio during the last set, 5-2 with Kerber leading.
First of all, Kerber had nothing to lose going into this match, since this was her first time going into a Grand Slam Final. Just hearing the commentators talk after the match proved that she layed it all on the court. Serena did drop the first set, 4-6, but she came back to win the second 6-3. The third set was a whirwind of long rallies and high intensity service games.
I can’t fully reflect on the match since I didn’t watch it, but I know Serena doesn’t play when she gets into finals. She has lost in two finals, once to her sister and once to Maria Sharapova. Also, she has won the Australian Open six times.
We can say that Serena had an off day, but Kerber delivered regardless. Congrats to her for bringing Germany a win in the beginning of the year!
