A Bad Ending, a Grand Beginning
Day One
Today marks the first day since the end of our world as we knew it. It also marks the birth of twelve new planets!
My name is Liam Sweeney, and I, along with my 11 friends (one of which is my twin bro) are now the heralds of the apocalypse. Honestly, the apocalypse started as any other day during a holiday would. I woke up, lay in bed, got dressed and had breakfast. Nothing out of the ordinary so far. I then went out to check the mail, which wouldn’t be that strange if it weren’t for the fact that the mail doesn’t arrive till 4:00 PM. But, sure enough, there was a package waiting for me. Well, two packages, but that doesn’t matter.
Our adventure started then, at 9:30 on a Tuesday. All twelve of us received our copies of the latest game, Sburb (the retail release, that is), at the EXACT SAME TIME. It was pretty weird. But, we looked past that. We each installed the game and, based on an unconscious decision on our part, connected to our server players. I can’t remember who I connected to… I think it was Patrick? But I know that James was my server player. As time passed, the counter ticked down to what we initially thought was when we would enter our session… but then we realised that it was a countdown for a meteor strike.
Things got hectic, but everyone managed to get in before…well, you can probably guess what would happen. So, here I am, sitting on a planet seemingly covered in trees, surrounded by a thick veil of shadows. Or at least, that’s what the others are telling me from their various vantage points on their own relevant planets.
It’s peaceful here, and it’s a nice temperature to. Not too humid, not too cool, just at the right temperature for me! The other planets are certainly interesting…let’s see… there’s a planet that constantly changes colours and the shapes on the surface shift constantly…there’s a really brightly coloured planet… and of course I can’t see the others from here, wherever “here” is.
But anyway, I have to get on with exploring this place, as I’ve fallen behind the others in terms of area covered. So, to whoever’s reading this, I hope I can get back to this diary soon! I’ll definitely have a lot to say!
