Can’t get the boy out of my mind! Austen Irving is my guilty pleasure OC and is still heckin’ fun to draw. Now if only my scanner wouldn’t eat all the minute details that the watercolors added. 

Austen Antonio Irving is the son of Ricardo Irving and seems to have inherited his father’s penchant for pinstripes, albeit as opposed to looking like a small time thug, he goes full mafia boss. He’s a former BSAA soldier but due to his father’s passing, inherited the whole oil business. The Kijuju natives aren’t too fond of him (hint: they despise him) but he’ll take them over his fraternal twin sister, Camilla, who is a piece of work.

Any of you have that one self-indulgent character that you just know belongs in the trash but you love them anyways? Yea, that’s Austen Irving for me. I created him years and years ago and decided early on, “Viruses are boring so I’m gonna have him just like his father and infect him with Las Plagas, too!” because I’m original. Of course, then years and years went by and I never figured out what his mutated form would be. Snakelike, obviously, but in what ways? I had a friend draw an amazing mutated form of him a while back and I love it like crazy but wanted to finally give it a whirl.

I like about everything about this mutation except for the snek’s face. I can’t draw snek. Snek face is hard. I might commission an artist that can actually draw snek in the future because my self-indulgent OC needs some good art from someone that can draw mutated serpents properly. I imagine his squishy human form would be protected much better but I just had to draw a rough idea of how he’d look.

Who’s going to break it to Irving that his son’s a hipster? 

I just really, really wanted to try something different than Austen’s usual ponytail and I thought he was a good man-bun candidate.

Forgot about this drawing. Tried drawing the Austen B.O.W. from another side. Kind of imagined it via game mechanics. Damage the snake' s head enough before the human part exposes itself and blast away!

Austen is starting to look more and more like how I imagine Crowley from Good Omens would look. Whoops. Anyhow, I’ve been in a mood to doodle today so I decided to draw my totally original character. One of these days I’ll get around to doodling his fraternal twin sister. One of these days...

Since I gave his father the watercolor treatment, I felt it was only best to do the same to Austen. Unlike how colorful Ricardo is, Austen’s much more sophisticated with red and black as his main colors. I wish I would have put some more work into it but my stomach’s bothering me a bit too much to concentrate too deeply on it so there’s mistakes on here I’m not too bothered about right now.

Whereas Ricardo’s more associated with all things aquatic, Austen’s closely associated with all things snake so his symbol is the Infinity Ouroboros. You can also consider Austen a legitimate “businessman with standards.” What profits his company makes is actually used to fund the BSAA and other groups that work to eradicate bio-terrorism. He still sees himself as the BSAA soldier boy so taking over the mantle of his own company has been very, very stressful for him. He’s a full time grump on top of everything else.

Listening to Toto’s “Africa” has quite a way to inspire what was to be an otherwise bland background. Debated making his suit pinstriped like he usually wears but the background was busy enough as it was and I don’t want to blind anyone that sees it.
