Bruce McLaren with the Austin 7 Ulster his father bought for them in pieces for 110NZD. At 15, Bruce entered and won his first race in it. The car currently lives at the McLaren Technical Center.

This little 1928 car is the essence of a sports car. The Austin Seven components were from a production car - and a relatively cheap one. The body was stripped down to the minimum for the driver and mechanic. A supercharger and a careful balance and flow job on the motor made it a fast car... so fast it won the inaugural Australian Grand Prix!
