"Freshman year I wanted to be a Nursing student, but I took public relations and I absolutely fell in love with the Comm department. I was like 'I'm going to change my major!' and so I did. Luckily I changed it early enough so I'm good to go for graduation."
Liberty Bell, a Sophmore Theater Major, loves music. "I want to take my singing to the next level. I write my own songs. I'm about to start recording in Nashville... I just want to entertain. I want to bring joy to people."
Sarah Whiteford, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, is new to Austin Peay. "We've been here since July 1st. We're still getting the hang of things. We like to hike. We just discovered Dunbar State Park. We're going to check out the Greenway Trail. I want to do some of those Gov Outdoors programs, the kayaking trip, backpacking, hiking, we're still exploring the area... I'm originally from Paduchah so this isn't that far from home. I'm used to Land Between the Lakes, but I'd like to get to know more places around here."
Megan Borders is a sophmore majoring in Accounting. Megan: "I was determined to come here, I didn't plan on going anywhere else. I was just like 'Austin Peay, that's where I'm going!'" Austin Weaver is a sophmore majoring in Computer Science. "The convenience is what brought me to Austin Peay. It's close to where I live."
Demetrius Payne, a Sophmore majoring in Computer Engineering Science and Cyber Security, already owns his own business repairing computers, "My deal is I've known about some of this stuff before I went into college. I'm kind of self-taught... I'm adding more to the plate here to grow my business."
Ryan Brewer, a Senior, is changing his major from General Studies to History. He's interested in making television, movies, and comics. "I came here just because my friends were coming here, didn't know what I wanted to do, realized the only things I was passionate about were movies, comics, and stories, so I said 'What do they have at Austin Peay?' which is why I started as a 'General Studies' because I had to Frankenstein a degree. I'll take a little bit of this and a little bit of that... I wanted to take [the class] Women in Film at Austin Peay because we have a lot of female characters that we've written [in comic books] that are inspired by the strong, independent, female protagonists like Wonder Woman]. Her character doesn't revolve around any kind of seduction. That's what inspired us... I took the [Women in Film] class because I wanted to see what they do right and what they do wrong. It's been kind of reassuring because so far we've kind of succeeded. Almost all of our characters have practical costumes. That was the first thing we wanted to do. She's a soldier, she's not going to go out there in a crop top to fight bad guys, she's going to wear armor!"
