I've lost a best friend, held some in my arms, been friends with many, a few have been my gunfighters along the way, but every last one of them is a brother. • Happy Memorial Day you savage warriors, those who died on their feet serving a greater purpose than themselves, answered the call, and made a deliberate decision to serve our nation during a time of war. • Some may ask what's so damn happy about it... that God produced these men. Great warriors that line His halls who paid the ultimate price for those who couldn't defend themselves. Men that time and time again said, "Get behind me, I will protect you". • Not a single one of these men would want any of us to wallow in pity this weekend. In fact, they are still right beside each of us as we celebrate with barbecue, beer, and cigars. They still sit around the fire with us laughing and telling stories about "that one time downrange". • So, Happy Memorial Day. I choose to celebrate their lives and sacrifice just as they would have wanted me to. I choose to remember them each and everyday as they would have demanded me to. Not with tears and sorrow. With great food, too much alcohol, laughter, and stories of the great warriors that are still by my side. It's easy to get lost in the shadows, but I encourage all of my brothers to honor them in the manner that "you" know they would've wanted you to. If this weekend doesn't end in a story worthy of telling ten years from now, well, y'all already know what they would've had to say about that...
