Students broke out in laughter during a stage movement course ahead of a midterm exam. The spring-like weather provided opportunities for beautiful blooms, outdoor classes, skateboarding, and lounging in hammocks. The Gov prepared for the 2017 total solar eclipse by participating in a video shoot with astronomy students. Members of the APSU Department of Theatre and Dance showed off their skills during the 11th Annual Spring Dance Concert on Tuesday, February 20, 2017.
Emily Waldon is a Sophmore, majoring in Public Relations. She's involved with APSU-TV News, "Unscripted Laughter", Alpha Sigma Alpha, and goes to the BCM. "Freshman year I wanted to be a Nursing student, but I took public relations and I absolutely fell in love with the Comm department. I was like 'I'm going to change my major!' and so I did. Luckily I changed it early enough so I'm good to go for graduation."
Liberty Bell, a Sophmore Theater Major, loves music. "I want to take my singing to the next level. I write my own songs. I'm about to start recording in Nashville... I just want to entertain. I want to bring joy to people."
Sarah Whiteford, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, is new to Austin Peay. "We've been here since July 1st. We're still getting the hang of things. We like to hike. We just discovered Dunbar State Park. We're going to check out the Greenway Trail. I want to do some of those Gov Outdoors programs, the kayaking trip, backpacking, hiking, we're still exploring the area... I'm originally from Paduchah so this isn't that far from home. I'm used to Land Between the Lakes, but I'd like to get to know more places around here."
Megan Borders is a sophmore majoring in Accounting. Megan: "I was determined to come here, I didn't plan on going anywhere else. I was just like 'Austin Peay, that's where I'm going!'" Austin Weaver is a sophmore majoring in Computer Science. "The convenience is what brought me to Austin Peay. It's close to where I live."
#TBT: Time to throw it back to every day as a college student. This photos shows an APSU student in the 1963 Farewell and Hail yearbook who just needed a little extra nap time in between classes. What’s your best advice for staying focused this semester, Govs?
(Farewell and Hail, 1963)
Demetrius Payne, a Sophmore majoring in Computer Engineering Science and Cyber Security, already owns his own business repairing computers, "My deal is I've known about some of this stuff before I went into college. I'm kind of self-taught... I'm adding more to the plate here to grow my business."
