Ms. Codex 1137 - Malefitzsachen veindlicher Bekhanntnusser ingefangen den 30 Maii anno 1572 ...

Are you interested in trials? This manuscript features a record of interrogations and testimonies in connection with criminal trials conducted by the imperial municipal court (Stadtgericht) in Vienna, from ca. May 1572 to July 1574, with notations about judgments, including pardons and executions. Among the trials is that of Ilija Gregorić and his followers for organizing and leading a peasant revolt in Croatia. Bound upside down with the trial records is a copy of a petition from Hutstocker, addressed to the emperor, containing a reference to the present year 1572. Hutstocker discusses the exercise of his duties in office and is possibly seeking a promotion. Following the petition is a table of contents listing the trials in the volume by name of individuals, with crosses marking those who were executed.

Ms. Codex 621 - De venatione divini amoris

This manuscript features a contemplative work with two prologues addressed to Hugh, cardinal-bishop of St. Sabina, O.P. (Hugh of Montrelais), and William, cardinal deacon of St. Eustachius (otherwise unknown). The text was composed by the bishop of Vicenza, Italy, Bartholomew di Breganze (1200-1270 ca.). The manuscript was written in Salzburg in June 1453 CE.

Ms. Codex 852 - [Commentary on the Institutiones Iustiniani]

This manuscript features four books of commentary on Justinian's Institutiones, one of the most relevant texts of the Roman legal system. This manuscript was probably written in Austria in 1743 CE.

LJS 498 -  [Tsurat ha-arets]

It’s time to look at the stars! This manuscript is a collection of astronomical texts in Hebrew from source texts ranging from the 11th to the 16th centuries. Subjects include geography, the Ptolemaic model of the universe, solar and lunar eclipses, and the astrolabe. There are frequent marginal notes and glosses. It was possibly written in Gratz, ca. 1542-1599.

LJS 382 - [Alchemical compendium]

As above, so below...

Alchemy! This manuscript is a collection of alchemical notes gathered by Georg Hayniger. It includes recipes, with several of them dedicated to potable gold (aurus potabilis) and tincture of cinnabar (tinctura de cinobrio), suggesting a focus on medical applications of alchemy. There are several references to authors such as Arnaldus de Villanova, Ramon Lull, Johannes de Rupescissa, and Albertus Magnus. It was possibly written in Vienna around 1476 CE.

Ms. Codex 835 -  Philosophiae Ar[istote]lis traditae et propugnatae

Who doesn’t like Aristotle? This is a commentary on various works of Aristotle by the Jesuit Ferdinandus Acatius, excerpted by the Benedictine Constantinus Gayer. It was possibly written in Austria between 1660 and 1663 CE.

Ms. Codex 356 -  [Pattern-books of bridles and harnesses]

If our previous catalog [see here!] did not convince you, here there are some more bridles and harnesses for your horses! Get ready for the battle against your enemies (or, perhaps, against the white walkers...) in the most fashionable way! These two volumes were possibly written in Germany or Italy and Prague or Austria, between 1550 and 1599 CE.

LJS 194 - Geometria

This nice manuscript is a collection of geometrical texts, such as Isagoge Geometriae, and a treatise on the construction of astrolabes. It was annotated in the 12th century and also by an unknown late 15th- or early 16th-century. The latter hand should belong to a humanist who collated the text with other manuscripts and highlighted the classical sources in the text. It was probably written in Austria between 1125 and 1175 CE.
