Not an Open Book, Just a Chapter with Teeth
A Meta Reflection on Fandom, Boundaries, and the Art of Deflection By Misty Green (aka Deanna Winchester, Princess Shuri 16—depending on the platform, the vibe, and the trust level)
On Names, Trust, and Narrative Control
I use several pen names. Not because I’m hiding—because I’m curating. I’m a ghostwriter. I write across platforms, genres, and fandoms. Some names are public. Some are private. Some are for community. Some are for publishing.
I don’t trust every person I meet. I stay vague on purpose. I don’t confirm or deny what’s “real.” Because what’s real is the writing, the emotion, the boundary-setting. Not the label.
Misty Green is my Tumblr name. Deanna Winchester is another fandom pen name. Princess Shuri 16 is my AO3 name. Everything else? Just a variant. If you know, you know. If you don’t—I’m not explaining.
If you’re trying to pin me down, you’ve already missed the point. I’m not an open book. I’m a chapter with teeth.
The Setup
I’m not here to be anyone’s moral compass. I’m not here to debate Wanda Maximoff’s alignment like it’s a courtroom drama. I’m here to vibe, write, and occasionally drop a truth bomb before teleporting out like Loki with the Tesseract.
Trust Issues Aren’t a Flaw—They’re a Filter
When someone asked me about Wanda’s antihero status, I didn’t dive into a heated debate. I deflected. Not because I didn’t care. But because I do—and I’ve learned that caring doesn’t mean overexposing.
I said:
“I’m not sure what her alignment is. I haven’t thought about it in a long time.” Translation: I’m protecting my peace. This isn’t the moment.
That’s not avoidance. That’s emotional strategy.
Discourse ≠ Connection
Fandom loves to confuse loud opinions with intimacy. But I’m not an open book. I’m a selectively annotated chapter. You earn the deeper pages over time. Until then, I’ll share a little, vibe-check the room, and dip if the energy shifts.
The Wanda-Tony AU That Lives in My Head
I do think about Wanda. I do understand her resentment toward Tony. And I do have a fanfic idea where she confronts him—only to learn Obadiah was the one pulling strings at Stark Industries. Tony wasn’t the architect of her trauma. He was the pivot. That’s the kind of story I want to tell: confrontation, revelation, and reluctant understanding.
But I’m not writing it to win a debate. I’m writing it because it’s emotionally real.
Deflection as Survival
Sometimes I deflect. Sometimes I vanish. Sometimes I drop a Loki GIF and let the timeline shift.
That’s not chaos. That’s chaotic neutral with a moral compass and a trauma-informed exit strategy.
Feminist Lens: Redemption Isn’t Gendered
Tony Stark was messy—very messy. But he got redeemed. He got legacy, love, and a statue. Wanda Maximoff is just as complicated. She’s been through hell, made mistakes, and sacrificed everything.
If Tony gets grace, Wanda deserves it too. I’m not excusing anyone’s actions—Tony or Wanda. I’m just saying: accountability should be equal. Redemption shouldn’t be gendered. Complexity shouldn’t be punished.
Maybe it’s because I’m a feminist. But I want both characters to be treated with the same emotional depth.
Discord Fallout & Selective Participation
I opted out yesterday. Not out of bitterness—but out of emotional clarity. I feel safer writing on my blog, where I don’t follow that person. We’re still mutual, but I keep my peace at a distance.
I didn’t like being put on the spot. I didn’t like being dragged into mod drama. And I definitely didn’t like how that person tried to gain full access to my every opinion.
I forgive to move on. But I don’t forget. And yes—I’m still a little damn petty.
Debate Club ≠ Discord Chaos
The only time I actually enjoy debating? Real life. College campus. Debate club. Where there are rules, respect, and actual listening.
Discord? Not that. It’s messy, fast, and often emotionally unsafe. Especially when someone misreads your silence as consent to drag you into a fight.
Misrepresentation Across Fandoms
To make it worse, the author they thought I was defending? Not even from the same fandom. Different book. Different discourse. And I’ve never condoned that author’s behavior.
Let me be clear:
I find that author deeply problematic. I love the fandom and the book itself—not the creator behind it. I’m not here to defend anyone. I’m here to explore stories.
They treated me like a spokesperson for someone I don’t support. And that’s when the trust broke. Even with mod intervention, I didn’t feel safe. Because safety isn’t restored by moderation—it’s earned by respect.
I Made It Clear
I wasn’t being discreet. I was being intentional. And I didn’t like the fact that I had to defend myself just to be understood. I didn’t like being put on the spot. That moment wasn’t about dialogue—it was about pressure. And I don’t perform under pressure. I protect my peace.
I said what needed to be said. I made it clear. And if they didn’t get it until the mod stepped in? That’s on them—not me.
Offline Peace, Online Distance
I only feel comfortable discussing my views with family—people I actually know in real life. Not friends. Not mutuals. And definitely not strangers who argue just to argue.
With friends, it’s agree to disagree. Keep the peace. Surface-level engagement. But with family? That’s where it’s safe. That’s where I can speak freely without being misread or put on trial.
That’s why my online presence isn’t 24/7 like it used to be. Truth is? I’m happier offline. Private is the way to go.
I’ve deactivated parts of my IG. I won’t return until there’s a safer presence—until certain people aren’t in power. When I feel safe, I post freely. When I don’t, I lurk on a burner account. And if lurking starts to feel overwhelming? I stop. I log off. I disappear.
Fandom has always been an escapist fantasy for me. In the real world, I accept that I exist. But when social media gets too intense, I find new ways to invest in my creative outlet. Because my peace isn’t performative. It’s intentional.
Final Thoughts:
I’m not here to be put on the spot. I’m not here to debate for the sake of it. I’m here to create, connect, and protect my peace.
If you get that, we’re good. If not? Sucks to be you. 💯🩵
