Autistic Knuckles headcanons because I'm autistic and struggling today

- Pressure stims!! He'll often press his knuckle spikes into his other palm when he needs grounding, or hold a chaos emerald very tightly so that the sharp point presses into his palm

- used to chew on his dreads a lot when he was younger- not so much now, but if he's ever very distressed he finds himself slipping back into the habit

- finds loud noises and bright lights very overstimulating- he really hates visiting the city for this reason

- I think travel would be a special interest of his, he loves to learn about different ways surface dwellers get around. Tails always has a blast info dumping to him about planes, trains ect and how they run, and even if Knuckles doesn't fully understand, he likes to listen anyway. This man is a big question asking nerd if you find the right topic

- spends a lot of time in the tunnels and caves around his island - small enclosed spaces make him feel secure, and they're always quiet and dim which is nice for his sensory needs

- just. Chewy stimming in general. Catch him nommin' on a stick or piece of bamboo while he does jobs around his island

- while he teases Sonic about being afraid of water, he can relate to an extent to hating the feeling of having damp or wet fur. Gross.

- going to the surface is hard enough with the lights, noises and unfamiliar areas, but there's also the added stress of being away from the ME. When he's on Angel Island, the Master emerald works to regulate his body temperature, but this doesn't extend to the surface. He is cold, please help him

- wears clothes on the surface occasionally for this reason (hoodies, jackets, ect. Often gifts from his friends) but he has to cut the tags out first

I love Boom!Knuckles so much, he makes me ill. Boom knuxadow angst for the soul

Since I need every character I like to be disabled, I think Boom!Knux has some sort of intellectual disability + something that affects his fine motor skills. I haven’t done research into what those would specifically be so project whatever you want <3

And for taking the key points of Knuckles' personality and leaving him as the 'dumb one'. And for over-shadowing every other character.
