So, this is Gabriel, the alpaca stuffie I took with me when I went to the hospital last month. This past weekend, I took him with me and decided that I'd have him signed, along with telling Rich what happened. I was super fucking nervous all of Sunday, but luckily I had some friends with me for support and waited till the end then made it up there. I put Gabriel down and said "I'm gonna be emotional so deal with it." Then I went on to explain why I was in the hospital and that knowing him and the support he's given me over the years has helped me so much and I'm really grateful for it. (I couldn't look at him during this, but bystanders said that he looked very touched and genuinely concerned) When my babbling was done, he asked if I was doing better now (yes), if I enjoyed the con (it was amazing), and he said he was glad he could help me in that way. He asked me again if I was really doing better (yes, I promise), then asked when my next con was. I let him know it was Minneapolis and he took my hand and said he was looking forward to it because he always enjoys seeing me. I said my goodbye and walked away so I wouldn't start crying again.
It took a lot of courage, but it was one of the most important and meaningful interactions I've had with Rich. I've always doubted and never fully believed he actually gave a crap but, now I've never been more sure he honestly cares. I'm so incredibly thankful I have what I have with Rich and I don't think I've been more excited to see him again! ❤
