King Los - Woke Up Like This (2014)
Everytime I'm really into a track and then I see the Martorialist is into it too I feel somehow vindicated. It's the opposite of being into something and then hearing Jo Whiley is into it too. I'm reviewing Zero Gravity 2 for a column soon and my basic view on it is that Los is a beast who is good at mimicking more distinctive rappers like Kendrick/Future/Drake et al, and "Woke Up Like This" is sort of like Los doing Meek Mill doing Lil Durk (ala. "Make Me").
I don't rate Los as highly as Meek just on the strength of his voice but fuck it this bangs and the rest of the tape is definitely worth a listen. You know, ultra-technical rappers sort of do my head in after a while. It's that double-time flow that has taken over these days, even when slowed down - its sort of inherently monotonous as a style. This is a problem I have with Meek too tbh. He just gets better beats.
