i did a realistic zoroark post before, but my worldbuilding and take on the species has moved on since then, so here's an update. they're the series equivalent of kitsune; they deserve to be more whimsical.

i have not done a realistic gardevoir post before but given that they're one of my favorites i figured i should, so here's some anatomy notes featuring zélie

i like writing nonhumans and leaning into the fantasy aspect of the series, so in my canon there are a lot of pokémon that are fully sapient.

first image:

johtoni zoroark (and their descendants in kalos) tend to have darker fur and more complex fur patterns. eye colors tend to be darker, including brown, black, hazel, and dark blue

unovan zoroark tend to have lighter fur and redder manes. blue, green, and yellow eyes are more common than brown

spine attaches (to the skull) further back than a humans--allows for more flexibility

zoroark keep their short zorua tails on evolution, they're just not often visible beneath a long mane

can switch between bipedal and quadrupedal locomotion

no fur on palms

narrow, sloping shoulders

kalois zoroark retain several of the traditions and fashion choices of the johtoni zoroark they're descended from

clothing tends to be loose and flowing so as not to rub fur off

patterns (especially floral) and gradients are popular

most clothing is made of wool/cotton/silk

biologically speaking, manes are an indicator of health--good or bad

more elaborate styles tend to indicate affluence--people who have things to do typically don't have time to mess with that much hair

achillée's style here is very tame and of moderate length

there's no upper limit on mane length if it's well cared for

jewelry and ribbons are more popular as decoration than dyes

other fashions include nail polish and piercings--just like humans

do not ask me about zoroark genders (yet). i don't know. i barely understand human gender

some gardevoir will retain a kirlia's small horns (though zélie does not have those)

no booba. they are not mammals

body is covered in short, fine fur like a cat

deerlike leg structure + hooves

feathering on the feet is common in kalois and sinnish gardevoir

catlike face + teeth

the horn or "heart" on a gardevoir's chest is a bony outgrowth of the sternum

a gardevoir's "skirts" are made of skin filled with capillaries that allow excess body heat to bleed off. heavy psionic usage will cause a psychic's internal temperature to rise drastically--the skirts help prevent the gardevoir from overheating

the extended ears are mostly cartilage, and serve the same function as the skirts
