🍄 hm. let's do may and maxie, eots flavored. he offers to teach her how to drive (NOT the motorcycle) and she declines. probably not something that will ever crop up in eots. may spends a lot of time walking or traveling on dragonback, and driving would make her anxiety spike which would make her an unsafe driver. fortunately hoenn has a pretty robust public transportation system, so this isn't something that's prohibitive for her.

“Oxygen,” the PDA chirped in his ear.
Ryley looked up, away from the kids and their mom, and kicked off toward the top of the aquarium. A few seconds later his head broke the surface of the water, and he took a deep breath.
This was a lot. Five kids—and the gate of course connected to the area near the gun. There were reapers and warpers out there… he would have to find a way to get them safely back to the shallows, at least for a little while, until they got big enough to defend themselves.
How long would that take? Years? Decades? The PDA had told him the sea emperor was 1,600 years old at least when she was captured, and much older than that now. And what about their population going forward? Were there undisturbed nesting sites out there somewhere? If so, then maybe….
He paddled over to the edge of the containment pool and pulled himself onto the ramp to sit, twisting around to keep his legs stuck out in the water—
—and four bright blue eyes stared back at him from below the surface just past the ends of his flippers. A heartbeat later, one of the baby leviathans stuck her head up, trilling at him curiously. It was the red-striped one who’d spoken to him.
Ryley pulled off his rebreather and smiled at her. “Hi, kid,” he said, and the baby’s lures flared upward as she opened her mouth, floating away from him briefly.
You sing! she exclaimed, forceful enough to make the space behind his right eye flare with pain, and despite it, Ryley chuckled.
“I guess if you want to call it that…?” he said. “I’d just call it talking, though.”
The baby blinked. But you did not speak when we greeted you…?
“Oh, do you mean speak like telepathically?” He held his hand up near his temple and wiggled his fingers at her. “As opposed to physically? I can’t talk like you guys do. And I can’t, uh, sing underwater.” He held out the rebreather, and the baby moved closer, inspecting it with big eyes. “I have to wear this so I can breathe.”
She turned her gaze to his face and came closer still, resting her forearms on the edge of the ramp. I understand. Mother said you came from someplace far away, she said. She said you were different from us, but still chose to help us.
Ryley shifted his weight, leaning away from her slightly. “Uh, yeah. Your mom and I are helping each other.”
The baby inclined her head. She says you swim with the current well.
A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. “Well, you either roll with the punches or get knocked on your ass.”
